i made my mind up about naval academy when i was a freshmen. The fact you know what you want to do already is great so you are technically already a step ahead of the game. But basically you need to understand your next few years in highshool are going to be HARD. Im finishing up my junior year and dude let me tell you I CAN NOT WAIT. I took all honors,ap, and dual enrollement courses this year and it was so difficult. I still came out ahead of the game though. I got 2 Cs on my report card but since their AP classes i heard colleges will see it as a B. I dont know your exact grades but a 3.57 is a good start. Try visiting your guidence counselor often and try applying for HONOR AND AP courses this is BIG academically for colleges to see. I you don't think you can handle them then take maybe 1 or 2 at first. AS LONG AS YOU GET As AND Bs you'll be fine. Also for the workout part of your question, I work out just about every day after school at my schools gym. If you have access to a gym then all i can say is WORKOUT. Practice your pushups, pullups, and RUNNING. Freshmen year i couldn't even do 1 push up. I could run a mile in about 13 minutes. Today after school i worked out and did a 2 mile run in roughly 17 minutes (not my fastest pace too) My point is with hard work comes your pay day. If you work at it you will achieve your goal. GOOD LUCK MAN HOPE THIS HELPED

    Welcome!!

Welcome NapGoalie77!! This forum will be great for you. Lots of parents, former and current military, and students who WANT to be military all come together to share ideas, advice, and all kinds of information to help you and others find the right path to a Service Academy or ROTC to ultimately receive an Officer's Commission. Be sure to check out the threads that post to the USMA heading, and also the AROTC threads that will post under the ROTC heading. I hope you learn as much from this sight as I have!! :) I'm sure we will talk A LOT more before it's all over!

    Wlcome Nap!

You play soccer, I suppose you are a goalie? I'm a team handball goalie myself 8)

On the workout part, by the way, I suggest you have a look here. It helped me out, maybe it'll help you out as well!

Also, for the basketball throw event, have a look here.

As you are a Freshman, I wouldn't worry about the CFA events RIGHT NOW. Try having a well-rounded body, and a well-rounded background too! Get leadership positions and STAY AHEAD IN YOUR CLASS! Try being the top students in your class. I was told that GPA is not a factor for "Academics" on your WCS (Whole Candidate Score)... but a low GPA means a low class rank. So be wise!

Good luck! Need anything, I (and everyone else!) am here to help you!

hey again, you said football players ext usually take over the weight room at your school...nothing new zach. i used to work out at a local gym in my city but honestly my dad got tired of paying for it so i started workign out at school where all football players and other sport athletes go to play, if i were you I WOULDNT LET THAT STOP YOU! honestly since ive started working out at school ive made more friends and talked to people i ahvent talked too in all 3 years of highschool. TRUST ME ITS WORTH IT! but again good luck man, highschool goes FAST so give it everything you got and trust me youll be rewarded at the end!

Nap wouldn't happen to be IndiaNAPolis would it?

Anyway, you're young and right now is when you need to prepare. First advice, stick with your sports. All four years. You might want to quit but don't. I wish I had taken that same advice when I was younger.

Also, keep working for A's and B's and taking the hardest classes you can handle those in. Your GPA/class rank will rise as long as you continue to do that. (I had a 3.7 Weighted Freshman year, 4.2 now at halfway point in Junior)

Join clubs ASAP. Be a member for a year or so and get to know influential people (read: popular) and get them to support you as you run for Elected positions in those same clubs or in a student government. If your grades and EC's are up to par, you will likely be inducted into the National Honor Society at the end of Soph. year, which is a check in the box on USMA's application. Likewise with Boys' State after Junior year. Talk to your counselor about that when the time comes.

Physically, your sports should keep you in running shape. Just remember, there is no offseason for fitness. Keep running and increasing mileage. If upper body fitness is an issue and you want a pre-made plan take a look at these.

    100 Pushups
    50 Pullups

Obviously 50 pullups is ridiculous, but it's a plan that will AT LEAST last you until you can do a decent amount and start Recon Ron or Armstrong. (Google those if you can already do 10+ pullups)

    In conclusion,

    1)Stay in sports
    2)Stay smart
    3)Get leadership spots
    4)Get and keep physically fit

You'll be getting your appointment in the mail before you know it.
