When high school counselor is mentioned in the candidate kit, does it mean college counselor or guidance counselor? Thanks.

    high school counselor

High school counselor means the/a counselor who works at your high school, whatever title they may use.

But most schools have both college counselor and guidance counselor. Which one does USAFA admission need?

Your school may be different, but at my school the college counselor handles all of the recommendations and forms that you would send to a university, and the regular counselor deals with schedules and personal issues and other stuff like that.

The guidance counselor. The obe who has supposedly known and interacted with you for 3-4 years.

As an ALO I personally talked to the guidance counselors/principals for the schools I covered. They were the only point of contact I had to the school. (maybe also the coach sometimes)

    So yes them.

I understand that they may be your only point of contact. I also hope you understand that they typically don't know these kids. Letters of recommendation from guidance counselor required = son writes letter gives it to counselor that makes a few minor changes and signs. Useful, huh.

As a teacher in a not so affluent district, I have seen firsthand how hands-on the GCs were with my DS (class of 2015), one of my former students (class of 2016), and another student (class of 2017). Not all (or even many) GCs are as you describe. The student leaders at the school are typically well known and recognized by the entire high school staff. Those are the students that USAFA are looking for. I am sorry that your cadet had a non-impressive GC, but that has not been typical of my experience with 3 different high schools. I have 27 years experience teaching at 2 different high schools and my DD attended a third high school.
