Just out of curiousity here.

Was there ever the thought of having The United States Marine Corp Academy? I do realize that USNA suits them well, but has anyone ever proposed a kind of seperation between the two services for two seperate academies?

Maybe when the CNO is a Marine Corps general....aka....I wouldn't bet on it.

There isn't an infinite supply of money for more service academies, the other academies would suffer, and while the local Marines here would have you believe otherwise, the Marine Corps is part of the Navy....whether they like it or not. :thumb:

Come now LITS, we know we are a Dept of the Navy. You'll never hear us say otherwise. Though you will occasionally hear us point out that we are the Mens Dept.

Anyhow, to the original poster. The Marines get their officers from a number of sources. USNA, ROTC, OCC and Promoting from Within, and of course the PLC. The USNA is a fairly small portion of where the officers come from.

The Marines do have an academy of their own, but it's at the high school level.

PLC is where most of the officers for the Corps come from.

Also, all 2nd Lt.'s from all sources start off equal when they arrive at the Basic School in Quantico. The only difference is that the folks from PLC have an average 3.5 years time in service pay advantage over all other sources.

But I think LITS is right, don't hold your breath to see another service academy. You're more likely to see the Civilian Service Academy develop first.

Comes down to one thing.....MONEY.

Will the Marine Corps have their own ships? How would the get around? MONEY MONEY MONEY!
