As we approach the Feb 28 deadline, what exactly changes in the admissions process that leads to most appointments thereafter? Are they waiting for final updates from candidates in most competitive districts before they call them...thus setting in motion a cascade of NWL, denials and subsequent appointments from NWL? Are all fully qualified and nominated candidates that do not win their district automatically NWL or do some get denied at that point?

I was appointed after the deadline because I was waiting for a medical waiver (had everything else done, including nomination).

    Feb 28th Deadline

Can you explain the Feb 28th deadline?
I just finished sending in info for a recent remedial and wondered if this is getting late for an appointment?
    Thanks

    Feb 28th Deadline

ChiSteve - I'm probably not the best person to give any advice...looking for answers myself. I know February 28th is the application deadline and I've been told thats when things start to move again. If by remedial you mean medical, I think its ok if if you are still working with Dodmerb after the 28th as long as your file is otherwise complete.

Feb 28 deadline allows the admissions office to close all incomplete application files, there are a few exceptions such as official medical remedial.

Most cases West Point is required to accept the best candidate within your MOC. So, if there are two similiar candidates in a MOC, with a completed file and one that needs to get his CFA done, the admissions office has to wait until Feb 28 to make the final decision. Based on what happens with Congressional vacancies, the NWL gets adjusted and so on.

    after Feb 28th

Can a candidate with file complete by Feb 28th still update his file after Feb 28th? For example, with a letter earned in a spring sport?

yes, but depends on when you will officially earn your letter. Don't know about your high school, but when I attended high school long long time ago, I didn't get my varsity letter until the end of the season.

If you high school has a policy (i.e the coach determines, must play 50% of the season, or etc) and you meet it, your coach can write a letter.

I have with witnesssed few times where candidates took "liberty" with present and likely future accomplishment, but if you take too much liberty that like playing with fire.
