Hello,

I am a junior in high school and would like to attend either the Air Force or Naval Academy for college. I would like input from anyone who has experience and can help with guidance. Here is what I can say about myself:

•4.2 gpa
• Classes include through duration of highschool: 9 AP courses, 6 Hnrs courses, and a required career pathway of biomedical science that the school is most proud of.
•Varsity lacrosse and football all 4 years and lettered all of them
•coaches basically guaranteed I would be captain for both sports next year
•200 volunteer hours in local hospital emergency room
•various clubs. Such as: key club (volunteer service), junior class council (treasurer), student government, fellowship of christian athletes (huddle leader), best buddies, safety club, and will be given a leadership role in the academic club.
• I am apart of the civil air patrol
• National Honors society
• 3X Relay for Life
• My father graduated from the Air Force Academy and spent 20 years in it, allowing me a presidential nomination.

My only downfall are my SATs. My total sat is a 1600. I don't know if I can get that any higher or not. I will be taking the new redesigned one and will also take the ACTs in April.

Any advice is well appreciated. Thanks

Apply for NASS/AFASS this year (deadline passed?). Other posters have indicated Boys State is a good option. Seek out leadership roles in CAP at all levels. Keep up academics/athletics/service. Prepare for CFA by trying it to get an idea of where you're at.

Thank you. I've applied to both summer seminars the first day one could. I will now just wait for that and will try to maintain my grades and try for higher standardized test scores

I hired a tutor to work with my son once a week in English. He raised his English ACT 8 points (He already had a 34 in math).

If you hire a tutor, be specific. There are a lot of SAT/ACT tutors but I specifically told his tutor that he needed a minimum 30 (preferably higher) on the ACT.

I recommend taking both tests.

Good luck!

Have you reached out to the USAFA lacrosse and football coaches. Might want to consider the recruited athlete path.

I am in the process of making my highlight tape for football right now. Once lacrosse gets over in May I will start on that. Thank you

If you hv 4.2 GPA & 9APs you should have no problem getting high SAT/ACT score, just need to study for it:) you can do it!

Do you mind if I ask which APs?

With your ACT/SAT score, try both tests and see which you're better at. Get some practice books and read about the different strategies. Take practice tests and look at the ones you got wrong and learn WHY you got them wrong. This is what I did and I raised my ACT from a 22 to a 34 in about a year. You can also ask some of your teachers for tips on taking the different sections.

The only other advice I have is to keep getting leadership experience under your belt.

Keep working hard and good luck.

Sophomore year: world history

Junior year: chemistry, biology, U.S. History, Lang

Senior year: physics, European history, literature, human geography

Try the ACT. Take it every time it's offered (if you can) and concentrate on one or two areas. The Academies super score so maybe you really bring your English up on one test date and your math on another test date. Good luck!
