hey last year i got hooked up with a cadet to shadow for orientation through this site. cad and i are pretty good friends (now that we're allowed to be). So if any one of you needs an escort for orientation i'm more than happy to do it for ya. just let me know asap and we'll figure it out. i'm sure other cadets here are willing too. just ask. have a great day!

cadet shadow

At Orientation they are coupled up with Cadets to shadow....correct?? so, do they put Girl with Girl and Boy with Boy?

do you mean you get to choose who shadows you/hangs out with you? if so, that sounds great to me, i'm going to the first orientation

pretty much they;ll have all the appointees go to the field house where a bunch of us are waiting. you just find someone unless you set it up beforehand. and yeah. only guys with guys and girls with girls

So you kind of get to choose who you pair up with for your shadowing? Or do they have a group of cadets and just kind of throw appointees at cadets if nothing's pre-arranged?

yeah pretty much. if nothing is set up beforehand then you just get someone random

Shadow Cadets

Are the "shadow cadets" 4th, 3rd, 2nd or First years? Aside from attending classes and dining together, are there other events? Should they bring work-out clothes? (Maybe we'll re-read the fine print on the orientation information.) thanks.

How about sheets? I saw a sleeping bag listed, but nothing about that, which I know he needed at CVW. His brother is going to camp next week and I only have one set of twin travel sheets (ie not with Pokemon or Teletubbies on them, and not queen or king sized!).

btown - I appreciate the offer but don't think my son wants anyone to know who he is and that he's related to me because I talk too much on these boards!

I just finished filling out my paperwork for hosting for all three weeks. Man, you know you work for the government when there's paperwork for having someone trail you for a day.

Pretty much after a briefing in A-hall, all the appointees go down to the field house and walk through the B-Ball Stadium where all the cadets are on the stands. You can either spot out who you arranged to go with(usually a sign with you name on it), otherwise, most cadets have papers with their homestate or city on them or sport they play and freshmen usually go hook up with a cadet that shares something in common. I was from Los Angeles, so i hooked up with a cadet holding San Diego, it worked out pretty nicely. But dont worry, everyone gets a cadet obviously and none of them bite! (well, not that much)

the escorts are whoever volunteers: it can be any any of the four classes, although freshmen are the most likely to escort since they just went through the process.

from what i remember, you only get a sleeping bag and a cot, but cadets have extra sheets, so if we need one someone will have one. i wouldn't recommend bringing any b/c its just more stuff to deal with.

basically you shadow the cadet for a day. that means attending classes and meals, and potentially working out, watching movies, or really whatever you and the cadet you get work out. often times in the evening appointees group into a cadet's room and hang out while the cadets do their homework.

yeah just bring the stuff they tell you to bring. we'll take care of everything else. you can pack pretty light. no need bringing extra stuff

Remember pack light but if you plan on buying things (i.e. boots) have enough space to bring them back. I saw this kid last year who, no joke, had to drag his bag because he didn't have enough space for his boots and couldn't carry everything.

It sounds stupid, (and something that your mother is sure to remind you of) but you'd be surprised at what kids forget.
