Hotels for Indoc / Parent's Weekend

cmakin: The diner at the corner of Middle neck (aka Great Neck Road) and Northern is "The Seven Seas Diner" - it's still there and still pretty good. If you walked to the Bayberry (now The Andrew) that's the place you probably are talking about. The other good diner when we were mids on Northern Blvd in Little Neck - "Scobee Diner" - would have been a little far. Alas it closed in the past year or so, probably due to the downturn in late night business after nearby establishments we used to frequent like "Patrick's Pub" closed and became regular eating places that didn't attract any larger crowds who would find themselves in need of sustenance after last call.

That's it, Seven Seas. Yeah, it WAS a good joint. Patrick's Pub. That was a good joint, too. I tended to spend most of my time at Hammerma. .uh, Hick's Lane and Mac Donnells (sp) on the square back inthe day. Both of them classy places. Navigator's Pub out hear Hempstead, too, when it was opened by some alumni and I was more mobile during First Class year.

As a student who went to Queens College in the mid 70's I member Patrick's Pub..have not thought of that place in years thanks for the memories. However I do not remember meeting any mids there.

Navigators was in Wantagh ... west side of Wantagh Ave, just south of Sunrise Hgwy in a small strip mall.

Wantagh, that's it. Hey, it's been 30 years, and I haven't spent any time back in the area since late 81, when I signed of a ship and went back to see some folks in the Class of 82 and a couple of classmates that had been set back.

How many nights are needed around indoc?

I used the parents association link and then called the Hampton. They had the discounted rate starting the 6th so I booked the 6th and 7th. I saw that the night of the 5th was just a standard rate.

What is the itinery for indoc? Are two nights required?

Indoc stay

Jeffl - We only needed one night before INDOC. Your DS and/or DD gets dropped off in the morning. We were allowed to stick around until the class mustered for lunch and then we were shuffled off campus. Depending on the trip home, you might need another night but you will be done with your part of Indoc that first morning.

Recommend checking out the Hyatt Place in Garden City. We've stayed there 3 times and have been happy every time. A large number of parents were there last parents weekend. They normally have reduced rates during KP special events. Also one of the few hotels we were able to find which have queen size beds vs doubles!

KP Mom - site needs to be updated. Hyatt Garden City has a block of rooms reserved for PW. One must request "US Merchant Marine Academy" reserved room. Res agent didn't recognize KP or Kings Point.

We have a reservation at the Inn at Great Neck and did get a discount for Parent's Weekend in September, but were told no discounts available for June.

I recommend the Inn at Great Neck- it's about $200 per night but it's clean, safe, nice.. We stayed at the Anchor Inn (in Queens) when we originally did the college visit.. and I do NOT recommend that. (scary) Make sure to look at hotels that are PAST the Academy (coming from the airport). Good luck!!
