I'm a 2021 applicant from MD. So far my ACT scores are
Composite: 30

33 English
32 Math
27 Reading
29 Science

Does USAFA admissions look at your composite score or your subscores when deciding if you are qualified or not? Also are they looking at the new ACT writing test scores as well?

Thanks

I'm a 2021 applicant as well. From what I have read and been told by my ALO, Admissions superscores, so your composite really doesn't mean much. I could be wrong, but that's what I've been told.

You are correct. The composite doesn't mean anything. You could have a composite of close to 30, but if your math is below the minimum, I believe 25, then you are not qualified. Even if all the others were 36. But as rex stated, the academy does superscore. So no score on the individual tests can ever go lower than it was. If you get a 32 in math one time and 24 in reading; and next time you get a 30 in reading and 25 in math, you'll have a 32 math and 30 reading.

And that is exactly why you should keep taking the ACT. I think our son took it 3-4 times. His highest composite was a 30 but his superscore on the individuals were 33,32,32,31

It was odd how the results flip flopped test to test but it worked out perfectly for his scores

Interesting. Do you happen to know the minimums for all the categories? Also, does USAFA rank certain scores higher than others. For example, because of the more technical bent of the Academy, does a 36 in Science carry more importance than a 36 in Reading? Also, would taking the SAT or ACT again this late in the year, such as the March SAT, do any good, application wise?

The ACT science section is not really reflective of any "science" i.e STEM aptitude. It's basically a quasi-reading comprehension section.

Also, I don't believe USAFA will take any more scores for the ACT and SAT for the Class of 2021 at this point.

Padre101, my DS had 2 SAT scores in his portal file and wanted to take the Feb 11, 2017 ACT. After he got the results, he asked his counselor if it was ok to submit and she said yes; it was posted in his portal recently.
