hi i'm curious to see how what squadron you are in is determined. can anyone provide any insight on the process? What are some of the squadron reputations, or differences between them? thanks in advance.

It is completely random. However, your basic squadron and flight determine your academic year squadron. This year there are 5 flights per basic squadron.
Aggressors:
A Flight: Squadron 1
B Flight: Squadron 2
C Flight: Squadron 3
D Flight: Squadron 4
E Flight: Squadron 5
And so on up to 40.
Squads 1, 22, and 40 are traditionally harder for freshman, but this varies from year to year. Each squad is different and the environment is really determined by the upper cadet leadership at the squad level, which changes each semester.

Why are those Squads more difficult?

What would be some of the reasons a Squad would be more difficult? Thx

The Cadet Wing is run by the cadets themselves (supervised by cadre). Get into a squadron that has some "tough" cadets in leadership positions and the squad could be more difficult than the one in the next hall.

FWIW - I don't think there is THAT much variance between squads. Some are just more restrictive on things like cell phone use during your Doolie year.

During BCT and your Doolie year I think USAFA just tries to keep the squads balanced numerically and by sex. The squadrons start off fairly even in numbers of males and females (even by USAFA standards:wink:).

I have "heard" that beginning with the third degree year USAFA attempts to also balance the squads by CGPA and other factors.

As far as reputations; Squadron reputations seem to change each year depending on which cadets are in leaderships positions. During the last couple of years Mighty Mach One and 22 Raptors have "supposedly" had a reputation for being tough. I would definitely take ANY reputation with a grain of salt. They are all easy and all difficult...at times.

thanks for the post! i don't mind one being in one that's "tougher" than the others. i was just looking at a list of all the squadrons. I bet the thing i'd be most concerned with is being in a squadron with a "cool" name hahahaha :yllol:
