Hey everyone! So I took my CFA and passed, according to my BGO, a while ago. I was wondering how Admissions would compare candidates.
I only got 48 ft on the BBall Throw...however I had 13 Pull ups, 8.85 on the shuttle run, 89 sit-ups, 71 push-ups, and a 5:24 mile. If there was another applicant with the same scores except a farther BBall throw, would they receive an appointment over me? How important is the BBall throw? Thanks for any help.

This is just my $0.02, but I find it very hard to believe that the only deciding factor between two candidates will ever be the basketball throw.

If you had the EXACT same application as another applicant, but their b-ball throw was better.. yes. they would be appointed before you. In reality.. no two candidates are identical. As far as I know.. its too late to do anything about it now. Just don't stress about it. what happens, happens.

to any future candidates.. (class of 2021+). one of the best ways I found to get better at b-ball throw was practice with a hard medicine ball instead of a b-ball. When I started I could only throw a b-ball around 65 ft avg. After throwing with a 8 lbs medicine ball for a month and a half, I could throw the b-ball EASY 110ft every time.

    Practice makes perfect!

It's very important! Every day on my ship after revile, we threw basketballs off the stern. JK.

You have a 5:24 mile and you're worried about the BB throw?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it;-)

Last I heard you don't throw basketballs in battle.

+1 @Coach62 When I first read this post I was impressed with that 5:24 mile.
@HassamaMama Don't stress over your CFA. It will not be that basketball through that will gain or lose your appointment.
It is a difficult time waiting for all the colleges to get back. But, your part is over. All your applications have been submitted. Enjoy the rest of your senior year (not too much though, keep those grades up). The wait will be over before you know it.

Why are you worrying about something you have NO control over at this point. Every candidate needs to STOP WORRYING. It is futile at this point. You need to find something distracting for the next 2.5 months and not think about USNA. Otherwise, you will be worrying about EVERYTHING!

My best 1600 meter is actually 4:56. I'm a varsity distance runner, so I knew that getting close to the Max on the full mile (5:20 for 1609 meters) was not going to be difficult. It was just the Bball throw that was making me worried. I also have a 2220 SAT (1490 Math and CR), a 33 ACT (35 on Math and English), and a 4.33 GPA. I'm currently enrolled in almost all Higher Level IB courses, the only Standard Level being Spanish, which I excel in (speaking-wise as well), so not keeping my grades up is not an option (haha).

Don't be worried about the throw. You'll survive. Even a less than great throw won't hurt.

And how important is it? You'll never think about it again.

Throwing SOME objects reasonably well can be quite helpful:

I don't understand why you didn't get appointment yet? Your grades & SAT/ACT are very good (don't know about your leadership) unless you are in a smart district with excellent students? I think you will hear good news soon:) enjoy and best wishes

These are exactly in line with my DS's stats and he is still waiting too. I'm sure there are many more just like them both.

You are fine. If you passed, which they said you did, you are fine. Stop worrying about it! Step away from the keyboard, go have fun with your friends or family.

Agree, there are a lot of candidates out there with similar and/or better stats still waiting.

My DS stats are also similar and we are waiting along with lots of other well qualified candidates.

Like hoops said. If you don't make it this year just make sure and keep going back.

As far as your run, I figured you were a sub 5 minute runner when starting fresh.

You would be right to figure that! That was also Indoors. I hope to be close to, or under, 4:40 outdoors in the 1600, in Spring track.
Also, thank you to everybody. I wish all of you and your DSs or DDs the best of luck.
