My DD counselor asked how many typical apply to the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar? Can someone give me an approximate number? Thanks!

It was just a question that was brought up... I don't know why she wanted to know other than just being curious.

Here are stats from the USAFA webpage on "applicants."
They don't separate out summer seminar applicants but generally it would be fair to assume the majority of applicants started by applying to Summer Seminar.

Admissions Profile: Class of 2017

Thank you gokings814! I only know of one student from our school that went to an Academy and that was around 10 years ago. So this process is very unfamiliar grounds for us and our school. My DD was accepted to the SS and we are all excited and we get tons of questions!! Thank you for your information.

SS is also used as a recruiting tool by the SA's to interest those who might otherwise not be aware of their program. More apply to SS than get accepted, but not aware of figures ever being published. One can apply to USAFA without attending/applying for SS, so the two are not directly related.

My DS' counselor was the same way. My DS was the first student to have been accepted to AFA SS in his school history. The school was really excited about it. It may encourage more students to apply if they know about.

For goodness sake, West Point even prepared a press release that you could forward to your local newspaper detailing the acceptance to SLE.

I think the more people know about it, the more qualified applicants will try to apply to the SAs. It's not a bad thing at all.

Congrats! Your DD is on the right track, don't quote me but I heard 50% of those accepted to SS gets in SA, being that you have daughter & it's been over 10+yr her high school had an appointment, I would think she has a great chance!! ;)

Thank you Thank you!! She was also accepted to the USNA CWV, she attends that at the end of March. So it seems as if there is "something" they like. We will take this as a PLUS and keep pressing forward!

The total number that apply will be a useless figure. They select a cross-section, so the number from your region is actually a better stat.
