Just noticed this reply from yesterday on the WP Admissions Facebook page for those, like my DS, who are still waiting on the NWL:

The Admissions Committee began meeting in October of 2012 and they will continue to review applications through the end of May this year. The majority of offers are extended between the middle of January and the middle of May, though sometimes candidates are contacted earlier or even after the process. Sometimes, depending on the number of qualified candidates from a region within a state that has a very high level of competition, the offer process for that region could be delayed as there are more applications to review, with each deserving a good strong look.

So end of May it is  ("or even after")

No word of "how many" though. Wonder if BigNick or others might have some updated numbers?

Class of 2017

Admissions will have numbers available after July 1st. In my opinion, the class is probably full. And will be fine tuning class composition from here on out.

The class at this point should be full or very close. As tug_boat said, the appointments available should be scant if there are any and admissions will be carefully choosing how to fill those.

Our DS just declined his appointment to USMA this evening 26 April. He is late in the process due to medical waivers and chose USCGA which he just got in the mail today. It is not hopeless if you haven't received a QNS letter. It is certainly a nail biter to not have news one way or the other this close to looming deadlines.

Thanks for the update and the encouragement! And congrats to your DS :thumb:

DD just now texted me that her friend was just offered a spot off the NWL this past Friday. Who knows, maybe it was the one opened by falcondriver's DS! Just wanted to report that this late in the game, there is still activity going on.

Since I know you are wondering, here are his stats...

3.4 from a super competitive high school
Good but not awesome test score (I think 30)
Couple of varsity letters
Impressive leadership
Two noms, (Unusual in our competitive district - MOCs coordinate noms to give as many as possible)

Best of luck to all of you!

Congratulations to your DD’s friend!!! This is an excellent example of why no one can “determine their chances” as the competitive environment is different from category to category.

My DD received her QNS last Thursday and here are her stats:
Nomination – Competitive (Our Congressman (TX) does not offer principal noms) 1 of 7 nominated, only female

Unweighted GPA – 3.7
High School – She attends a public charter IB High School which was nationally ranked in 2012 by Newsweek #18 and #37 by US News and World Report. The pool included 22000 public high schools.
Math – Algebra I/II, Geometry, Calculus (2 yrs)
Science –Biology, Chem, Physics, Environmental Science
Language –Spanish I, II, IV, V (Skipped Spanish III)
Economics – HL (2 Yrs)
History – US History (HL) 2 yrs, AP World History

Other Recognition

College Board AP Scholar
Named to the National Honor Society for Art
Recognized at dinner given by local West Point Society as being 1 of 3 top candidates in our congressional district.

Takeaways from this experience:
1. Have other options in work
2. If you have a strong desire to serve, do not overlook ROTC. It is not a lesser experience, it is a different experience. ROTC graduates 3000+ 2LT’s each year vs. 1000 from WP. Last time I checked we still have the finest Army in the world.
3. Do your best, do not waste your time worrying about the odds of receiving an appointment. Disregard any perceived indicators that an appointment is imminent unless it is the BFE!!

In the case of my DD, she had a number of options which included business schools at Univ. Texas and Boston College, both are ranked in the top 10 undergrad business schools. Academically she is in a great place, and was fortunate to be awarded an Army ROTC scholarship. She will be attending BC in the Fall and her path to becoming an army officer is clearly defined.

^^^ +1

WIT84, your DD's accomplishments are outstanding and impressive. Tell her that ROTC will prepare her just fine and that her career will be what she makes of her opportunities. Seeing her stats makes me thankful she was not in my sons nominating slate!

There will still be a few more offers - mostly to back-fill people who decline their appointments, do not get a medical waiver, get in some trouble, or suffer a major injury.
I do not know the exact number as it changes daily but it is in the 10-30 range.

Ds has finished paperwork for mmi and is excited about his plan b but waiting for either the bfe or the qns is a pretty big distraction! He is in a good place and understands he will probably be receiving the qns letter...but it would be great to hear one way or another!
