How much do athletic awards help?

This year, in running alone, I have earned 3 individual regional championships, 1 individual state championship, and a spot on the Texas All-State Track and Field Team? I also have numerous awards in my other sports. How well does this look to the USMA?

All-state and all-American designations are a definite plus. Keep up the good work, just make sure you are still well rounded: academics are still the most important, and extracurricular leadership which is weighted just the same as athletics.

Naterrater, I'm sure this looks very appealing to the running coach! Be sure to send the coach an email expressing your interest in USMA and you would like to run for them. Include your best and second-best times in your events, and include Cross Country info if you run it.

Next week would be a good time to send it as T&F Nationals are just wrapping up right now. There is probably also a recruiting form on-line which you could fill out as well, but I would send the e-mail either way, to express your strong interest.

(BTW, don't feel the need to play it cool. If WP is your first-choice and dream school, tell him! Coaches want talented athletes who want them.)

If you're All-State in Texas I'm going to assume you are very good. I would give the coach a call or email, you sound like recruit material. I'm All-State in a state that is not nearly as competitive as TX and the coach was very responsive to me. If you told me your (track) times I could probably tell you if you would be a recruit or not, PM me though.
