I've heard a lot of talk on the competitiveness of different districts and from what I've heard, the east coast and California are both very competitive. I live in the 9th Congressional district of Wash. and I am curious on how to find whether my district is competitive or not. :thumb:

Very few can tell you on a district by district basis. And, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. First, you can't control where you live. And, second, the most competitive districts tend to send a lot of folks to USNA.

Do your best and see what happens.

And to add to what USNA1985 said, the competition can vary year-to-year...so what might be competitive this year, might not be as competitive next year.

Also, your BGO should have a decent idea of competitiveness, especially if he/she has been a BGO for a few years.

Basically, "competitive" means there are a lot more people in the district who want to attend a certain SA (or all SAs) than the number of nom slots. Competitiveness can also vary by SA -- for example, USAFA is understandably more "popular" in Colorado than the other SAs, so a CO district could be competitive for USAFA and not USNA.

As a general rule, WA is probably not a super-competitive state other than possibly the district that houses the Navy sub base. However, I don't live there, so that's only a guess and that situation can definitely change from year to year. And, finally, to repeat, you can't do anything about the situation other than move -- which isn't an option for most people.

In the WA 9th, you are in fairly close proximity to the Naval Shipyard at Bremerton as well as reasonably close to Whidbey Island so I could see your district being competitive but probably not as competitive as the districts that actuall house these installations.
