How were you notified of your MOC Nom?

My DD got her nomination in the mail today, big envelope with a fancy certificate. No phone call. I have no idea if it's on the portal, I don't think my DD checks it regularly.

So the bottom line is no one else was requested to appear at the MOC's office, correct? I thought it was unusual.

There is a local girl that is a friend of my son, she applied to west point and was asked to be there at the same time. She's basically a sure thing as her father is the local admissions liasson for one of the SA's and she's also a very quality candidate to boot. She deserves to get in on her own merit so her fathers position is just icing.

A local AF athletic recruit that has already received his appointment was NOT requested to be there.

So, what happened when you got there? What was the news? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm new to all of this, but it sounds to me like an appointment will be offered. The AF athlete recruit already has his appointment, so there is no need to invite him. Fingers crossed for your DS!

It's tomorrow at 13:00. Say a prayer please.

It's a 2 hour drive so we'll leave about 3.5 hours before. Miami traffic can be a nightmare.

My DD received nomination to USNA from Senator via mail last week. The next day she received letter in the mail from the other Senator stating that because of her Nomination from the other Senator she would not receive one from him. Yesterday her portal was updated to show an additional nomination from our Congressman, although we have not yet received notification from them directly.

Tried to update last night but the site was down

It was as I suspected, he received the nomination in person. Our MOC just wanted us there for a photo op. They sent it into USNA yesterday so not sure when his portal will reflect it.

So - he has an LOA and a Nom and is 3Q so an appointment should be offered soon. He also has a senatorial Nom for AFA, he wants to wait and see if he gets an appointment there. Then he has a decision to make.

A few weeks ago he was sure it was Navy, now he's reconsidering AF with a slight lean towards Navy. He likes both very much and it's obviously a very tough and important decision. He has 2 good friends that are likely to go to Navy and 1 that is attending AF

My suggestion to him is to visit both again if he does get an appointment from AF which I think is likely, but not a given of course.

Does anyone know what the policy is regarding me visiting both with him?

You can definitely visit with him. Anyone can visit the campuses, stop by admissions and do tours. Not sure if your DS has done a CVW at USNA... if he hasn't, might be worth asking for one to make an informed decision. If my memory is correct, USAFA does not do many overnight type visits except some limited programs. Congrats to your DS! Hope the BFE arrives soon. Oh and I would like to point out USNA beat USAFA in women's basketball last night! :)

Thanks to both of you. He did the summer leadership experience at both NA and AF. He was then asked to return for a CVW at NA which he did. Our local liasson said that if you're invited you should go. So he's been to NA twice and AF once.

Good win on the BB game. I take it you no longer play?

Coach, I am so thrilled for you and your DS. If you can afford it, I would at least go back to the USAFA one more time. What a hard decision to make. Congrats.

DS noms to USNA and USAFA are now showing up in his portals but USMA is not showing up yet.

Hi our DS got his nomination call today from our MOC, usually how long is the wait for appointment or rejection?? He does not have LOA so does that mean the wait is longer?? Our MOC just submits ten names for his slate, does that statistically mean our DS has 1:10 chance of getting in?? Also will my son have an advantage if there hasn't been an appointment to USNA from his high school in over 30+ yrs? His school is very excited he came this far:)
