How will a government shutdown affect ROTC?

Luckily my son's battalion does FTX at a non gov. site, so all is a go right now..

RC is at Ft. Lewis, they find out next Friday if it still a go.

Just as others have reported, the stipend is on hold for now.

Just as a side note, older son has heard that inprocessing is very slow, could take awhile when he reports.

DS just got an email yesterday about no stipend on the 15th. I thought maybe he had a screw loose when he was telling me earlier that he hadn't heard anything about 'no stipends'. No problem for him since he has plenty of savings from his summer jobs.

I can confirm my DS has gotten the same message.

He is confirming that it is delayed (paid in arrears) rather than lost altogether.

A Government IOU, priceless.

I'm suprised Congress has the 5% approval rating they have now.

I can see the emails being sent home....."Hey Mom and Dad....can you send me some cash"

While this is a small inconvenience for our cadets and mids, I really feel for those non Gov. workers and businesses that are effected by all this, there is no retro active pay for them.

I hope those in Wasington will soon put their egos in check and do what they were elected to do. What am I saying, I probably have a better chance at winning the Powerball Lottery.

ridiculas shut down

My son has been ripped twice last year he was awaiting a waiver for his eyes was ridiculas DR they sent him to wrote he was basically blind. Common sense he had been in ROTC for a year . Summited paper work January 3rd was still not approved before sequester he was at school cost me over 8,000.00 as a widow. Now this year his room and board is not paid with the shut down he is encountering late fees. He also is on the get paid latter for his stipend. He is meeting with some people at the office as he is some leader in charge and wants to skip a lab have his guys call every congress person and senator in Washington. I would love to see these people live as I do as a widow with three kids and two in college . Sorry I am venting but really they should all be fired . MY

Any word on the October AROTC board? Still cancelled? I'm assuming we'll know more once the shut down/debt limit drama ends (hopefully very soon).

Was the October board officially cancelled? I did not see it posted anywhere that it was cancelled or even delayed.

From our source (Clarkson?), it was cancelled. I also would have thought that Cadet Command would've told us what happened or what the future holds.

nnmfam, I can sure understand your frustration. I wonder how often they (politicians) stop and think about all the "trickle down" ramifications of their inability to hash out an agreement and how devastating it can be to some of us. The really sad thing to me, though, is our unwillingness to "throw them out" for their inability to do their jobs as they are paid (quite handsomely) to do. When the next elections roll around, the majority of us will vote for our same elected officials because of our perception that the mess we're in isn't the fault of the elected officials from OUR district or OUR state, it is all those other guys that need to go.....

Ladies -- just another mom, but had to chime in... I feel for all of our cadets riding thru this crazy government by chaos time. You both make great points:thumb:

I was talking with our DS2 yesterday about this, our family is triple impact....govt shutdown; working with no pay until it is resolved, vet that may not get paid on Nov 1st and DS is AD, but UPT is being impacted too. There are reports that they are not even starting new UPT classes for the incoming students.

I asked him if he knew how you address a Congressman or Senator in a letter?

He shrugged his head NO. I said it is to be written Honorable Congressman XYZ.

How many of us connected to the military believe that they deserve to even be associated with the word honorable? Not me for sure.

Honorable Congressman... That puts the moron in oxymoron. :yllol:

Tuition Payment

DS was notified today that his tuition payment had been processed by cadet command and should post to his account within a week.

We shall see........this is trick or treat month.

Looks like the shut down and debt ceiling debate end tonight (hopefully I didn't just jinx it)! Glad that things are going to be back to normal, at least until January.

Our DS has just been informed, back pay will be his account by Oct 25th and Nov 1st will be a normal pay day.
