I am a parent of a prospective student that is currently in his Junior year of High School.

He has been accepted for SLS at USMA and has had an initial interview for SLS at the AFA, as many others on this board have said, he is still listed as "Applicant."

Just want to say, "Thank you !" for the site and for all of the sharing of information on here.

Welcome! I am also the parent of a Junior who is going to SLS (session 1). Which session is your son attending?

I am learning a lot here and enjoying the contact with others on the same path-hope you will too!

Welcome to the forums! Let us know if we can help with anything.

We haven't decided, but probably the 2nd one because he will not be out of school in time for the 1st. He just got the letter Friday and we are going to talk about it more this afternoon.

Same issue...school here doesn't end until June 17. Our son spoke with his teachers and chose the earlier session to give himself more time around exams.

Congrats to your son and hopefully our boys will meet at the academy if not at SLS!

I am a former Army officer (Norwich graduate) and a parent of a son applying to the SAs and ROTC. This has been an incredible experience, and we've made mistakes along the way before learning about this online forum (like, not applying for a Senator nom in time before the deadline, but thankfully receiving a nom from our local congressman). I think this website does an incredible service for all aspiring military officers. I am proud to be a part of this. Greetings, everyone!

Just received confirmation of our son's acceptance for AF SLS.

He'll go to USMA for the 2nd session and the 3rd at USAFA.

Question if someone knows off the top of their heads: what percentage of applicants that attend multiple SLS sessions do not gain appointments( I understand the SLS doesn't guarantee anything, the question is more around the commitment made to attend two or more sessions and the seemingly lesser chance of voluntarily choosing another school.)

I would say he has a good chance since the academies have shown interest in him. Make sure he works on physical fitness for the CFA that will be administered during SLS. :thumb: Does your son have a first choice SA yet or still undecided?

He is in AFJROTC- and we have 2 AF retirees in our family, so I would say he definitely would prefer the Air Force. We also have a bunch of family in Denver so that is an influence, however slight, as well.

That being said, I served in the Marines, one g'father in the Navy and the other in the Army,so he would gladly accept an appointment to the USMA or USNA, as well.

We are working on the CFA together( I need it worse than he does, but he got mad at me for laughing about the run only being a mile.)
