Hurricane Irene

According to my son they will be moving boats up the Hudson to a more secure moorage.

Do you think anyone has said “batten down the hatches” yet?

oh no

oh no.
our local weather said this morning that the storm will pick up speed as it heads up the coast, and that there might be winds up to 110 mph, and about 18 to 22 inches of rain near Manhattan. hmmmmmm I bet they are all very busy "getting ready" for the storm!

While it will still be a significant storm, I would imagine that by the time Irene gets to the Island, she will be a Cat 2 storm or possible weaker. Thankfully, KP is on the lee side of the island. I do imagine that there will be high water and some damage, but for the most part, I also believe that the Regiment will be safe where they are.

And wasn't "Irene" the name of the mission or battle cry if you will for ill-fated mission portrayed in the movie "Blackhawk Down"? I can see Jememy Piven yelling "f$@&ing Irene"! , as the choppers lift off. Que the Jimi Hendrix music...

Just heard from DS...Liberty is being allowed from now until Tuesday..has anyone else heard??

Yes was told the same thing. Everyone is to leave the Academy apparently and not return until Tuesday.

Thanks for answering so quickly. Is leaving mandatory? I'm hearing that some of the coaches are not letting them go..could this also be true?

Leaving is not mandatory, however the admiral encouraged it. He also said if you aren't gone by Friday at 1800 that you will have to stay. Return Tuesday I believe at 1800.

Heading up to West Point on the Kings Pointer

Just heard from my DS. He needs 11 more "watch" days to complete his 317 days. They are taking the Kings Pointer up to West Point to move it away from the storm. These will count as sea days.

Football has to stay tomorrow but not sure if they're released after that.

Will they let local parents know if someone needs a place to stay? Can take students if needed. Please PM if we are needed.

KPbaseballmom..Thanks for that....practice? really? Oh well..guess that's all part of "the ride"...

Uh-huh...sure, we all know the real reason why MMA is evacuating. Its because they knew they were gonna get their butts kicked by our Men's Rugby Team on Saturday. Its okay...I would have run to if i were you. :shake:

Seriously though, hope everyone stays safe and weathers out the storm! :thumb:

I cannot believe the coaches are forcing the players in some sports to stay after the Admiral encouraged the regiment to leave. If any harm comes to any midshipmen the Academy's coaches will have some real problems.

I couldn't agree with you more Foxtree. Mass transportation will be shut down due to the intensity of the storm ....but there will be practice...hmmm
