Hello everyone i need help! i have a few questions i know someone that just started in the air force academy and is in BCT right now. He just decided that the military life is not for him and he wants to come back home....Does anyone know how long it takes to out process a basic cadet? and will they be able to call us to inform that he is coming home? He just gave us the news this past saturday and said he was telling the cadre late that afternoon. Please let me know. Thanks!

Bri; I'll answer your question, but in the future, realize that there are a lot of SUBSECTIONS like air force, army, navy, marines, rotc, etc... Try and post your questions in the appropriate section, or MOST people won't see it, and you won't get the help you need.
To answer your question: How long it takes to out-process a basic cadet depends. It depends on the attitude of the basic, and the "Perception" of the cadre/staff. They've been doing this for a long time. They can tell if it's true incompatibility, or if it's simply "Home Sick". If they think the individual does have what it takes to be a successful cadet and military member, they might "Drag their Feet" a little, to give the individual the opportunity to realize it isn't so bad, and change their mind. If they see an individual is truly incompatible by their actions, they may move quite a bit faster. It can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks. Usually, anyone who has made it til now; "Jack's Valley", is getting into the more "Fun" part. (Lack of a better term). Very few want to quit after this. Some will later; like after the first or second semester of school. Anyway; the time varies. hope that helps. mike....
