If not USNA what are your other plans?

I am a 2012 graduate as well but here is my list:

After #3 its out of order

1. USNA
2. USCGA (cross comission after graduation)
3. V Tech (nrotc)
4. GW (nrotc)
5. UC Berkeley (nrotc)
6. Cornell (nrotc)
7. Tulane (nrotc)
8. Norwich (nrotc)
9. USMA (probably dropping since my MOCs only give up to one nom to each applicant)

Long term goal: go navy and forget the rest! I won't take no for an answer.

Those that are still waiting and waiting and waiting....

I know there are many that are still waiting, so if you want to, continue to update. How are your other plans going? Have you visited any schools and if so, how did that go?

Here is another update:

First Choice USNA, waiting, waiting, waiting
Fully qualified with
Nominations:
Senatorial Nomination
Congressional Nomination
JROTC honors unit Nomination

Second Choice: NROTC scholarship awarded (assigned to NC State NROTC unit) but requested change to Auburn or Embry-Riddle ( I am wait listed at both)

Accepted to:
Auburn Aerospace Engineering
Academic Heritage Scholarship $59,600
Auburn Honors College
NROTC scholarship (wait listed)
Attended E-day and the aerospace engineering program is fantastic. Very
impressed with the honors college program. Really had a great weekend and attended NROTC sponsored JROTC competition. Can't say enough
good things about this university. (No it is not about the football team!)

NC State (awarded NROTC scholarship assigned to their unit)
NC State honors college/program nomination
Initial visit was OK, going back again this weekend for their engineering open house.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Aerospace Engineering
Embry Riddle Academic Scholarship $20,000
Will attend accepted students day in Atlanta and on to visit their campus (Daytona) afterwards. This school has been great to deal with over the phone and via emails. Extremely helpful people. NROTC great!

Tuskegee University
Merit Scholarship awarded, 17,800 per year
Visit planned in early April
New NROTC program, great to talk to, helpful.

The wait is tough!

I'm graduating in 2012, but...
1. USNA

If I don't get in the first time, I'm definitely reapplying the next year! In the meantime, here are my backups for that year...
2. University of California Riverside
3. University of California San Diego
4. University of Colorado (out of state)
5. University of Montana (out of state)

Still waiting to hear yes or no from USNA, but I've got my back-up set just in case I don't get in this time around. Anyway, my back-up is Maine Maritime Academy on NROTC scholarship. Either way my college is paid for since MMA picks up the Room and Board for scholarship students. Which isn't why I'm doing this, but it sure does help.

I'm still a Junior, but it is getting to be the time where I am looking at schools

1. USNA
2. USAFA
3. Ohio State -NROTC
4. Purdue-NROTC
5. Virginia Military Institute

Some other considerations include, USMMA, USCGA, Norwich College in Vermont, The Citadel, and Texas A&M

I am a senior (class of 2011!!) and I applied to:
1. USNA (awaiting reply)
2. USMMA (got prep school)
3. Texas A&M University (accepted and applied for NROTC scholarship here)
4. Texas A&M University Galveston (accepted and applied for NROTC scholarship)
5. Baylor University (accepted and received a merit scholarship $34,000)

Appointed to USNA, and accepted the appointment

Also accepted to

Georgia Institute of Technology
New York University Polytechnic Institute - Honors Program
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Stevens Institute of Technology
Penn State University

Still Waiting to hear From

Duke
Vanderbilt
Lehigh University

I'm still waiting like the rest of you with 2 nominations, and triple Q'd! I pray
each and every day that the appointment comes in the mail! But you ALWAYS
have to have a back up...and for me my back up will include going to 4-year
college, Re-applying to USNA although throughout the recent years the amount
of people getting in the second time has slimmed down very much... but I will
do PLC which is Platoon Leaders Class for the Marine Corps which is 2: 6 weeks
summer programs, 1 during your freshman summer and 1 during your sophomore
summer. 1: 10 week program during junior summer and then after you graduate
you are commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps! It is an
excellent program. You receive pay during each program and it does not interfere
with college at any point. "The faster you graduate the faster you can become a
Marine Corps Officer" is how they put it. Then after commissioning I will continue
to pursue either Pilot for helicopter, jet, or go complete different route to Recon.
It all depends what I want in 4 years!

Excellent plan. My DS's plan is very similar. He just got the TWE from the USNA, still waiting to hear from MO ROTC. If unsuccessful with that, he will probably go to a SMC or the University of Washington (which has a wonderful MO / NROTC program). He has been admitted to VMI, Citadel, Texas A&M, and UW -- everywhere he as applied save USNA. He wants Marine Recon. Tough road. We shall see. Good luck!

pennak said:
He wants Marine Recon
have him start taking anti-CS-4 pills. :help:

In a few years he'll be immune to the CS-4 tear gas on the "death march" back into camp on last day of Recon school.

Advice about USCGA v. USNA

My DS just got TWE from USNA although he has received appointment to CCA.
He is contemplating doing NROTC at a 4 year college and then re-applying to Navy since he feels CG may not present the opportunities he desires - aerospace engr, jets. He has contacted his BGO and CGO to seek guidance on the strengths/weaknesses of his candidacy. I have two questions:
1. Can anyone speak to the potential for cross-commissioning after graduating from CGA?
2. His grades have slipped a bit this year (high school senior). I know that he will excel in college courses as he has a very strong AP background, but how will the senior slippage be seen by Navy on re-application?

Denied

Our son just got his letter of denial to the USNA. I am sure it was SAT scores . 550, 540, 520 just not good enough. We are sad but not defeated.

Sorry for the news, I think we will be in the same TWE group soon. What state are you in? Just wondering when to expect ours. CGA told us today that even though my DS was deferred from EA1, he is not high on the review list and explore plan B. I feel very defeated for him! Best wishes to all waiting and getting TWE.

Don't feel bad. My DS had 1400 in math and cr weighted gap of over 4:0 eagle scout and still got the twe

Junior here and I've already posted, but I've sort of changed my mind about a couple of places so here's an updated list...

Service Academies
USNA
USAFA

Schools in the States
Arizona State University
University of New Mexico
University of San Diego
Northwestern University
Cornell University
Purdue University
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Schools in the UK
University of Edinburgh
University of Bath
University of Surrey
University of Keele
University of Sheffield

I've looked at colleges quite a bit, and I've revised my list...even though I'll be graduating in 2012. I want to go for a general Engineering degree at whatever college/Academy I make.

USNA
USMA
Purdue, West Lafayette Campus(NROTC)
The Ohio State University, Columbus Campus(NROTC)
Michigan, Ann Arbor Campus(NROTC) I'm almost ashamed of this one...being a born and raised Buckeye.
University of Mount Union
Notre Dame(NROTC)
Northwestern(NROTC)
Vanderbilt(NROTC)

I want to go Marine Option for all NROTC if I get the chance.

Obviously first choice is USNA. I've already been accepted to several backups:

Penn State (interesting story behind that one) NROTC
University of Illinois (NROTC)
VA Tech (NROTC)

I'm still sitting on pens and needles for UW, but most importantly, USNA.

What I keep reminding myself is that the college I go to, no matter how prestigious or historical it is, is only a means to the ultimate goal:

That in 4 years time I will be in the United States Navy.

DS waiting to hear from USNA (Plan A)... Plans B-E as follows :shake:

DS has NROTC 4yr to Michigan...waiting to hear if accepted by Michigan
(Plan B) (told he may not hear until mid-late April)

Accepted to UC Boulder ~ Engineering
Accepted to Iowa State ~ Engineering, received $28,000 Merit Scholarship

Waitlisted NROTC ~ UC Boulder (was/is first choice for NROTC) Plan CWaitlisted ~ Iowa State Plan D

Enlist ~ going for Seals ~ Plan E

As the mom I am dizzy from trying to keep track of it all AND maintaining head cheerleader/mail stalking status!...Am thinking of the Calgon commericals from years ago...."take me away"!!!!!

My thoughts and best wishes are with one and all as we enter the countdown phase....hugs to everyone!

On to Plans B-E

DS just informed me he received his TWE from USNA on Tuesday, 3/22.
We are out of town so I haven't seen letter...:frown:

He "sounded" ok about the whole thing...he obviously didn't think to call us on Tuesday but without being there it's hard to know forsure...I am kinda relieved this waiting is over..now we wait to hear if he is accepted to Michigan or where they will transfer his scholarship since he is accepted to both C&D..keeping fingers crossed for Plan C~Boulder! Plan D~Iowa State

Good luck to all still waiting to hear good news!!! This forum really is like an extended family!!!
