IL nominations

yeah how did you already get an appointment with the senators!?
got a response from all three that they received my apps. cant wait to interview! I love ever part of this app process even though its long. worst part is waiting!!

are you guys all parents of IL hopefulls or applicants?

Hey zach, I'm a parent of a hopeful. Son has not heard from either senator either. He had his congressional with Foster, but hasn't heard any results.

Keep up the great attitude! The wait is the indeed the hardest part.

Did you apply for summer seminar? If so, just think, that was a year ago that you were anxiously awaiting the opening of the application. Hang in there!

I'm a parent of a candidate who applied for USAFA and USMA. He has his interview set with Durbin on 12/7 but has not heard from either senator.

Keep us posted if you hear from them. I'm a little concerned about Kirk since my DS never heard from his office when he sent in the application. He called them to confirm they had received it near the end of October and they said they did and had sent him an email. He never did receive an email though.

Unfortunately he didn't confirm the email address they had on file. If it was wrong and they send out interview information via email, he would not get it....

did he check his spam/junk mail folder?

did he check his spam/junk mail folder?

Yes he did....

I am thinking he should call and verify but I'm just not the type to pester people. Since nobody (except JJLMA) seems to have heard from the Senators, then I'll assume nothing has been sent out yet. Hopefully once they start scheduling interviews others will post about it here. Then if he doesn't receive word, he can call.

I just don't like my DS calling his ALO or MOC unless it is urgent.

Don't be afraid to call the MOC office and ask for the person in charge of SA noms if you want to know about file completion and interviews. It's part of their job to help applicants with the nom process and they're usually happy to help.

As for the senators, when I sent in my app to Kirk I got an email confirming that they got my app and that interviews would be scheduled for mid-December. I didn't think Durbin did interviews?

If they said they sent him an email, and he did not receive it, then there is clearly a problem somewhere. Calling in such a situation is not pestering. And even if it were pestering, if it stood between me and going to an academy, I'd be pestering.

communication is key

it is important to communicate with the MOC SA person because they call the shots and you need to understand how they think about things.

just got an email today confirming times for kirk. if you didnt receive it i can forward you it!

DS got the email today as well. Best of luck to all that are interviewing!

Little confused -- does your son have an interview with Senator Durbin? Because later you say he has not heard from either senator. Spoke with Durbin's office today and they indicated there would not be interviews. Spoke with Kirk's and they are sending out additional emails for interviews today.

My bad, I put Durbin but meant to say Hultgren.

He is scheduled to interview with Congressman Hultgren this weekend.

Yesterday he received the email from Senator Kirk's office with interview times for 12/14.

He has received no word from Senator Durbin's office at this point so I guess it is possible that he won't be holding interviews again this year.

My apologies for the confusion..... I'm getting so old I confuse myself!

Thanks so much for the updates. I didn't realize that Durbin was not doing interviews. And my son did receive an email from Kirk today.

Mind boggling that they only choose 10...

Wow. 10 minute interviews with Kirk! Interview with Foster's committee was over 45 min.

Seeing the list the way they sent it is frightening to me (mom). All those bright ambitious kids!

Good luck to everyone!

I agree completely. And proud that so many bright minds are willing to serve. Good luck to all of them.

Kids are so much more prepared. When I did this years ago, an entire group did the CFA at a local Air Force base followed by MOC interviews. I came prepared for the CFA but didn't know about the interviews -- did them in my gym clothes. lol

wow. how do you even make yourself stand out in 10 minutes? and how do you as committee members remember all the kids that you see from 8am-7pm??

what a process.

just a screening

keep in mind it is a screening not an interview. Checking to see if they don't have a congressional nom, and if still interested in moving forward. Understanding is that a short list for interviews will come later.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of that but it makes perfect sense.

well that helps a bit thanks Jjlma. At this point, my son has a conflict with his assigned interview time (retaking the ACT) so he may not be able to get his face in front of the committee.
