I'm a Cow at USMA, AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Family weekend (aka Parents Weekend) in the Fall this year doesn't fall on a 3 day weekend.

All, I hope I've answered your questions. I did this much longer then I initially thought, but it has come time for me to go back to greener pastures (Netflix). I'm going to leave this thread on a sort of good note. I hope everyone the best in their future endeavors, and if that brings you to USMA, good luck. I'm done for now so yah, peace.

TPIAD,

Many thanks for your sincerity, candor, and the myriad of thoughtful responses you have provided us over the past two weeks. DS will undoubtedly benefit from your posts as he embarks on his own journey eight weeks from today.

All the best to YOU!

Okay, I know you said you were done. I'm posting this in case you decide to continue it ever. I'm hoping to apply to USMA in a few years and have been researching it. I assumed that you are a plebe for a year, you are a cow for a year ect. I've been researching more and keep coming across 47 months. I'm very confused where this came from. West Point is 4 years, correct, and if it is where is the 47 months coming from? That's my stupid question, any response would be appreciated.

You're actually at school and training for a total of 47 months and at the end of each year you get "promoted" from 4/C to 3/C etc.

Thank you for doing this! Are you able to have a minor and a major? And if so, how difficult is it to have both an minor and a major

Do you have any knowledge or experience with the Orienteering Club and the Climbing Club?

Can a student participate in two clubs like that during the year?

Is it recommended with all the academics and other responsibilities?

TPIAD mentioned back at Post #275 that he was moving on from answering questions in case folks are waiting for him to answer.

You can message me if you have any drastic questions that haven't been answered before R-Day about beast or plebe year.

There are other USMA related people on the thread that can help pick up slack as well. I don't mind answering questions.

Never did either of those clubs personally but had a couple of good friends on the climbing club and team. Definitely seemed like a good workout and they were a good group of cadets. The club is less time intensive and doesn't require as much experience as the team.

Yes, you can and I was definitely doing multiple things a semester. Depending on your TAC team though, technically the SOP says you can only be on one traveling club your plebe year (and there are succeeding limitations for each class year after that). If you have the grades though, most TAC's won't make a big deal of that. I was gone every single weekend my first semester on some trip section plebe year except for two (a proud record I never repeated until firstie year).

You'll figure out what you can handle and what you can't. It takes trial and error. I definitely would say stick to doing fewer things up front so you can get a feel for what academics and working out if going to do to your schedule before you super load yourself. I found two or so things that I felt really passionate about (one being my team) and wanted to get good at. That's where I spent the most time I could and still have time to hang out with friends and do well at school.
