Im a very anxious applicant awaiting a hopeful appointment

No one could tell you. It depends on many different things. Sit back and relax, you might hear tomorrow or around April 15.

When will you hear about an appointment. Will it be a call from your nomination source or will it just show up in the mail one day?

The answer is, it depends. USNA normally notifies the nominating source, who has the first opportunity to recognize the candidate. Most candidates will be called by their source and be told the great news. For some reason (whether the source chooses not to call), not all candidates receive the news from them.

A few days after the notification period to the source, USNA mails the BFE (letter).

haven't heard about scholastically though I assume I am? I also have mediocre act scores ... math at 24 .
I wish you the best, I mean that, but BEST might not be the USNA... might be also. Understand that being good at Math isn't a "nice to have" at USNA, it is a critically important tool as a foundation for Calculus, and then Calculus-based Physics, and Chemistry. There are no B.A. degrees awarded at the USNA, it is a Bachelor of Science degree, by mandate.

OK, so you weren't great at math in 8th grade, and so you couldn't take Algebra I in 8th, which set you back a year compared to those who were good at math. Now, four years later, you haven't taken Calculus, but still want to get into a Service Academy where not being good at math isn't an option.

Again, I hope you get in, but if you do, not being good at math, if you don't fix that, has the possibility of eating you alive... and what good would that do you or the Academy? These are things the admissions committee has to weigh at every selective, competitive college, for every B.S. major. My advice, should you get in, is to not wait for summer, but RIGHT NOW get tutoring for Calculus and get yourself up to speed.

Ok I dont know if you read my posts right, but I never said I wasnt good at math... I said that I wasnt good at math IN 8th GRADE so I got set back. Right now I am taking trigonometry and am sitting at a 98%. Im not bad at math. I was just explaining how my school works and why I havent taken Calculus.

mveach_74, it does not seem like you are necessarily bad as math as much as behind. Most of the incoming class of 2016 will have taken AP Calculus their senior year and from what I hear from currently plebes, the calculus classes are still extremely challenging to the students who did well in AP Calculus in high school. My son breezed through trig/pre-cal but has earned his first B-in AP Cal this year. A totally different beast as he has explained! I would strongly recommend you looking into a computer program or online prep class and review some of the basic concepts of calculus before you begin the semester if attending USNA. I know my son plans to do this even having taken AP Cal this year. Best of luck!:thumb:

I think I read your post right ... you weren't good at math IN 8th GRADE, and you got a 24 on the ACT Math portion. OK, let me rephrase that...you weren't good at math in 8th grade, and per the ACT you are above average (74%), but not great not great at math now, and you will be behind the 90% of USMA freshman students who have already taken Calculus... that's a tough spot to be in. I also hope they view your math preparation with "an open mind", as you stated. But still understand most of the people at USMA will have taken Calculus in HS, and are in the top 10% (28 or above) in math capablility as measured by the ACT.

So I still think if you are Appointed, and I hope you are, that you need to come up to speed in math with your classmates or the first year at USMA will be pretty rough.

Being behind and not taking calc. persuades my mind into thinking all I will receive is a NAPS or foundation school appt.

apologize for the redundancy, but to emphasize the number of people in our spot..... I am 3Q'ed with a nomination, still waiting for a letter...
