Outstanding! And you've vividly illuminated what USNA values both BEFORE and AFTER appointment. Academics! It's what weighs most in the preliminary and in the ranking once you arrive on the Yard. Well done, indeed! We join you as a proud Pennsylvanian!

Congratulations.

Now is a good time to start running. And swimming. And practicing the front leaning rest.

"You have all four limbs on the deck, this should be easier than standing!"

Enjoy your last year of high school. Don't worry about rates or any of the Plebe Summer stuff. You'll adapt to it quickly. Just work out and have fun.

Oh, and take the AP English and AP Government exams. You can validate other classes too, but English and Government in particular will punch two nice clean holes in your matrix, which you can use to get ahead, take a critical language Plebe year, or just leave blank so your schedule is nicer. Same for Chemistry; they don't take AP scores, but if you validate the first semester during Plebe Summer you'll have a hole the second semester.

Phenomenal - my son and I had a beautiful visit all around the yard yesterday and now is even more aware of how impressive an institution the USNA really is.

Even happier you had a presidential nom ---more chances left with Congressman Fitzpatrick.

nuensis, I know they dont't take AP scores, and I have already taken the AP Language test and scored a 5 currently taking AP Lit and AP Comparative Govt. what do you mean they can validate my AP classes to make my semester easier?

Also, Roxymom, did you meet with Anthony Enck at Mike Fitzpatrick's office, he is the Nomination Liaison. Great Guy.

During Plebe Summer, you are given the opportunity to "test out" of some classes, or, if you don't test out, you can be placed in a higher level class. That's what's meant by validation.

Itocornman,
My DS currently a Plebe at USNA and was able to validate 6 semesters worth of foreign lauguage becasue he scored 5 in AP. He said he also had to take a test and had an interview with a foreign language teacher. But that did not make his semester easier as he is now taking the upper level (400's) language along with all other required classes. What is nice about validating foreign language is that you will earn minor in language (if your major is not foreign langauge) by taking fewer classes in foreign language. For Calculus, if you validate, you will take higher level classes such as Calc 2 of Calc 3 in your Plebe year. Plebe year is never easy as my DS is saying that he has so many other stuff to do that he cannot spend enough time studying. But that is OK, all the Plebes are feeling the same way, and they will survive.

The benefits stretch beyond Plebe year, especially when you're looking at validating 300 and 400 level courses, because those will knock out some required electives for 2/C and 1/C year, depending on the major. Either way, taking AP is good, and going for validation is good.

Always take the validation test. If you're unsure about your own abilities, you can refuse validation later. As things are right now, I am five classes ahead of most Division II matrices (I'm looking at CompSci right now). Five classes is just about a semester; I have a semester of emptiness, and it will come in handy down the line if I want to study abroad or something like that.

Congrats! What was his UW and W GPA, if you don`t mind me asking? Obviously, it must be very high if he was in the top 4%! :)

First, great great congratulations! Your pride is showing and merited! :thumb: In most cases, this accomplishment is one to be shared by a Plebe-to-be and his family. Unlike what Hill tried to sell, it doesn't take a village, but having the love, support, guidance, and commitment of a family behind you, makes a huge difference and can lead to a world of possibilities. Your son has already discovered, pursued, and is on the edge of being immersed in one of the greatest among those. Again, nice going! What a thrill, huh? Now, practice sucking in your chest.

Your son's profile portrays a near "perfect" candidate, altho there is no such thing. Leadership in the classroom and among his fellow students. Physical fitness and athleticism. Both a teammate and a leader. Strong academic pursuit. Outstanding performance in competition both in the classroom and beyond. Balance in his testing with the much preferred math area being stronger. NASS and obviously adequate CFA. We know nothing about his BGO report (nor will you), his written application, but seems they were strong enough. And despite being from Texas, the USNA must have determined that with work, he could overcome that handicap. :shake: Admiral Nimitz did.

Again, great job to all concerned.
