What are the immediate expenses that will be incurred on the first day and the days after I-day? How much money do people give their kids? Will we need money while doing BCT or is everything provided? I know most things will be in the packet but I just want to get a jump on this (i.e. do I start working 2 jobs to support myself there until i get the meager stipend? LOL. Thanks as always.

While many say a debit card works fine; i suggest having between $150-$200 in cash with you on I-day. Until you get the paperwork all taken care of and your pay started, you'll need some money for toiletries, snacks, personal items, etc... Some people don't need much money at all. But like i said, I suggest cash in the $150-$200 amount.

I think the bfe suggests $200 to $300 because your cadet will need to purchase misc items as well as some cleaning supplies. They will have a chance to spend money on snacks when they go to the rodeo too.

Will the newly inducted doolies be able to purchase their own specific toiletries such as face soap and mouth wash? Or does the Academy restrict them to basic things like general toothpaste/tooth brush, regular soap. One cadet's needs differs from another...

Careful when you go to the rodeo :) I've known a lot of cadets who ordered themselves a pizza or two and eaten the whole thing, and when they got back to base, their new cadre drove them into the ground with PFT's and such.

Your shopping for college will be buying toiletries for BCT. No mouth wash though, we can't have basics getting drunk on Listerine. :yllol:

You can't have Listerine because it has alcohol in it.
In BCT, I remember buying a bottle of Crest mouthwash.
