Can someone please share what events and time frames of these events that happen at the USNA for newbies:

July 1 induction day, parents attend..........what else?

Thanks

The official USNA website posts a calendar of events along with timing of various activities associated with each of those. If you have a more specific question, you can ask that here.

Your question is too general so am not sure what exactly you are asking.

Many parents do not attend I-Day functions - too far, too expensive, many reasons.

I can speak from USAFA only in this regard, but we never missed even one Parents Weekend -so plan now for your mid.

Some USAFA parents go to Acceptance Day at the end of BCT - we did not (it's only an afternoon and hundreds of miles).

We made a weeklong vacation out of Graduation, and never ever will regret that.

Much will depend on your finances, distances involved, time off, etc. And even more will depend on when your mid wants his parents there.

There are many threads on here for USNA event discussions, including if you had to choose whether to attend I Day or Plebe Parents Weekend (PPW). I Day you arrive day or so before with your appointee, spend some anxious last hours together, deliver him/her up to USNA in the AM, wander around until the late afternoon induction oath (tear-bringer) and precious 15 minutes' bye-bye time. PPW, near the end of Plebe Summer, you get much more time and get to take them off-Yard for hours at a time, but usually not overnight.
Fall of 2/c (junior) year, there is 2/c Parents Weekend, usually coincident with a home football weekend. 1/c year, Commissioning Week!
Depending on how close you are, Army-Navy Game, Bowl games, sports events on the Yard or road, concerts, etc., might be things your mid tells you about.

Above all, the minute you identify an event, book the hotel (threads abound). You and thousands of others descend on Naptown with regularity.

I Day is drop off and never see them again until Stribling. Bring a meal,a drink and cloth for them to sit on. PPW is great and I would recommend renting a house in Annapolis if at all possible. Navy/Army is a great time although DD slept under a blanket in our seats since she hates football. Little Sister had some Bill The Goat Tickets on the north end and they took her into the Mid section at some home games. Alumni Association has some great before game programs with lots of great food. Commencement is a given. Book early for any date at Annapolis.

Capt MJ is spot on hitting the items I would call the most important events. Beyond those it really depends on what your kid does while at USNA and what works best for you family. Only you guys know how close you are to USNA, what you can support financially and what else is going in your family. If the funds support it, I would recommend I Day, PPW, Herndon at the end of Plebe Year, 2/C Parents Weekend and Commissioning week at a Firstie. If you have to pick between I Day and PPW... I would say PPW. Your kid will be able to call during those 15 minutes and chat with you if you cannot attend. They have alumni out there with cell phones to help make this happen. Other notables to attend: sporting events of your kids, football games, random visits. As a basketball player thousands of miles from home, my parents always picked a week in which we played 3 home games to come watch. If we headed anywhere out west they definitely hit those games. They also came to the N star Army/Navy games and Senior Night. They came for all of Commissioning week 4/C and 1/C year. Liberty is very generous as a 4/C that week so I got to spend a ton of time with them. You will know the routine better by the time 1/C Commissioning week comes and can talk to your kid about what is best. My parents came on the early side of it as I had 6 weddings to attend immediately after graduation to include my room mates. I was so busy with sword practice, weddings, rehearsals, etc starting the day after graduation I wouldn't have been able to even visit with my family.

Sword Practice! Even the Marines practiced to get it right! Big slap down the stairs even though she outranked everyone down the steps. They do help at the Chapel and do a great ceremony. We were close enough to go down during three day weekends and brought food for Company mates during the four years . Go if you can, it is a great experience. Then you get the Midstore!!

I believe I-day is June 30, 2016. Please correct me if I'm wrong. We already made plane reservations. Plebe Parent Week is Aug 11-14.
