In case you want to leave the USCGA

Try this!!!

LITS, can you try out a tuba?

Hahaha...Hey my 1/c and his friend Tried Out the cymbals with the Regimental Band two weeks ago during a review at the CGA.....and they sounded pretty good!

My two cents...my youngest DS flew through AIM with all intentions on applying and getting into the CGA...he loved Aim and really thought he did well...it was even before Aim that he was committed to becoming a CG cadet...sadly, the week before Christmas he was sent an email denying his admission. The quotas killed him. Unbelievable academic grades in high school. Sports, extracurriculars and plenty of community service. He jumped into EA with both feet and with eyes wide open, it just didn't work out. Last years class was the smallest in years and he paid a price...he never looked back and is excelling at another academy. Point being, he never spoke about leaving; all the talk was about getting in. He took the disappointment like the mature young man he is , mom and dad were proud he stuck his neck out...go 100% or don't go at all! There are just too many good candidates that would give a toe for that appointment...just my two cents.

Great input, CGA is but a tool for an end goal. There are other avenues to achieve that goal.

Glad to hear he's doing well.

Let's not fool each other or think only the perfect candidates get in...quotas need to be met and the CGA is no different than any other school with a limit on its incoming classes...its stinks, it hurts but another lesson in life gets learned. Ain't fair but we move on...their loss is another schools gain

Yeah, since it is tax payer money- I don't want their hard work to go to waste. I might try the AIM program that others have went through and see where I go from there. Thanks again for your in put and for serving our country ;p

Thank you, thank you, so much sir for understanding! Congrats to both of your sons, I wish to serve like do they some day and I do feel I have the capability to succeed- but my parents just wanted me to be prepared in case anything side wheeled off- you know, like an emergency plan so the "boat doesn't sink." So I was just curious like what you said- I never asked to be flamed down. Thanks again for understanding. :)

Yes, if anyone has any thoughts about the CGA you really should do the AIM program. Even if you decide not to go or don't get accepted I think you will find it worth your time and expense. It was a learning experience for my stepson.

AIM is a great idea. I didn't do AIM as a high schooler, but I was able to watch a bit of it as a cadre. I think they give you a decent idea of what will be expected. It wasn't be exactly like Swab Summer, but it'll be a sample, and you'll have some real live cadets there to answer your questions.
