Induction Day or parents weekend ?

(IMO) Parent participation on I-day is mostly for the parents.

(Again, IMO) Parent participation during PPW is mostly for the Plebe. Each Plebe responds differently, so be flexible about what they want and need to do. Some may want to go into DC and sight-see, but others may just want to sleep, shower, and get "real" food.

Perspective: If you're not there on I-day, your Plebe will be "adopted" by another parent for the 15-30 minutes they have free. If you're not there during PPW, you'll miss being with them for roughly 30 hours of liberty. You'll miss seeing the look of pride as they approach you in Summer Whites for the first time. They'll miss having you provide "real" food and a hotel room where they can truly relax for the first time in 6 weeks.

On Sunday of PPW they must be on deck back in their required uniform (not the Summer Whites they wear during PPW) in time for formation at 1800, so most will feel the need to re-enter Bancroft NLT 1730. They often re-enter to the sounds of Christmas carols....

Note mostly to other Moms: No matter what, DO NOT CRY until your Plebe is out of sight on Sunday.

Is it okay for dads to cry?

Man this made me laugh so hard! I have an appointment and I cannot even wait for the Parent Weekend at the end of the summer; it's a little weird thinking that far ahead since I have my parents here at home at all times. But I love my mom so much and I cant even imagine how the "30 hours" will be whenever I see her after the 6 weeks are over.

crack me up

you guys crack me up----love the comment about not crying until you are out of sight----we held it together till DS went back in to report and actually left before they played "I'll be home for Christmas". we felt if DS saw us he would loose it too---said goodbye 45 mins before report time --so we could all collect ourselves. Admit i did loose it about Dalgreen. Sister lost it I-Day. DS didnt even say bye to Dad. Again i must say --Plebe parent weekend is the one not to miss. And a side note to future plebes and parents---it will get better! Almost done with year 1!!!!!

blackhawkup! Good observations. Yes, it gets better, but it's never really bad, either. These kids are virtually all ready, and USNA's MO is to keep 'em in. They now brag about how many remain vs. how many got pushed out.

This is a memorable, great bonding memory time of one of the greatest adventures life can bring. Remember, however it is viewed is how it wll be.

P.S. hopefulparent ...re: dads being allowed to cry ...is this part of the rescinding of DADT? In any case, you're telling me it's okay to come "out." WHEW! ;)

Still, I recommend a dark pair of sunglasses, in any case.
