If you haven't seen some of this info yet, take a look. Though the dates will be difference, it gives a good look on what you can expect. Feel free to ask any questions about NAPS (I was both a NAPSter and NAPS detailer my firstie year) or life after at the academy. Best of luck during Indoc! (SCREAM AYE SIR!!!)

Can you tell me what the cost is to attend NAPS? I thought it was part of your "service" like attending the Naval Academy but someone recently told me that candidates have to pay to attend NAPS.

No Cost. You do get paid though and certain things may be deducted from that pay. Just like at the Academy.

They actually see more money of their paychecks while at NAPS than they will at USNA. Make sure to save some of it to help get through Plebe Year.

Newport on Thames street during the summer weekends looks just like Annapolis during PPW. All those good looking kids from NAPS and OCS in their Dress Whites. I think they only get more money if they were prior enlisted?

I think that all Napsters, not just priors, make a bit more than a Plebe - I think its because the costs deducted from their pay is less than what gets deducted at USNA for the first year.

xtrememom, you may be confusing NAPS with the Foundation School program as both are the Navy's prep school program. With the Foundation School the parents are asked to help support the cost with the Navy. If it causes hardship on the family, the Navy (or Alumni Assn) picks up the entire tab. Considering the Foundation school is as much a golden ticket to an appointment as NAPS, most parents almost break an arm in getting out the checkbook.

Information for NAPS parents - We've got a NAPSter Class of 2016 - USNA Hopeful 2020. When he first got the appointment I found tons of information available about USNA, but I found almost nothing for NAPS, so as I learned things, I created an information sheet for new NAPS parents. If interested, send me a message and I'll be happy to share.

The I-Day slide show has lots of great information, and the school posts a new one every year on its Face Book page. The first thing to do is "like" the official Naval Academy Prep School Face Book page because that's how the school communicates with the parents. There will also probably be a Facebook page for Naps parent class of 2017, but I haven't seen one yet. The first Naps appointments should be coming (or already verbally communicated.) Our Napster was an athlete and he "committed" to the Navy coaches in November with paperwork taking another month or so.

I haven't seen anything official yet for 2016-2017, but the last three years, I-day at NAPS has been on the third Tuesday of July. In 2015, I-day was 7/21/15. Priors report one week earlier. The new MCs must report by 9:00 a.m. so many fly in the night before. If they do, they can stay in the dorms or in hotels in the area.

About three days ago I got a offer to the NAPS and although it's early to accept the offer I (obviously) did :) hopefully I see more NAPSter in the forum

Btw, I realized none of the documents in the official website are updated to 2016-17 any explanation?

My daughter is really hoping for a NAPS appointment. Mind sharing what your SAT/ACT scores were like?

The 16-17 information packet likely won't be updated until May. The wait from acceptance to receiving further information seems like forever. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask. My daughter is at NAPS this year.

    For ACT I had math: 31 reading:28

Good luck with you and your daughter!

Thank you. One other question. When you were offered your NAPS slot last week, had you received a nomination yet? I realize that you don't need a nom for NAPS, but am jut curious if they reviewed your application without it.

Actually those are pretty good scores for math ACT and SAT. I was a Napster back in 1983. I took my son, who has applied to USNA this year to see it last summer. Alas they had condemned the old Nimitz Dorm building, but have better buildings in it's place. If you have scores like yours, which 650/600 SAT and 29-31, seem to be acceptable... the key is then having everything else be excellent. Grades, extracurricular, varsity sports, Eagle Scout, Sea Cadets or JROTC, etc. Good luck. Waiting to hear over the next 60 - 75 days for my son as well.

Yes I did! I luckily got nomination from congressman in my district! Also I believe he wrote me a recommendation to NAPS for a sign of good luck :)
