I only started my initial application at the beginning of October and it still has not been approved. Is this because I started too late in my senior year?

My assumption is it was because of the government shutdown. I would reach out to admissions to see what the story is and make sure nothing dropped through the cracks due to the shutdown.

Thanks! I'll contact admissions. The strange thing is that I received a presidential nomination already, but no word on the initial evaluation.

If they processed your presidential nomination, that means someone should have looked at your file. First, look to see if you might have a letter posted to your portal. It may not be open if 1) you didn't submit test scores, 2) your file is on the cusp of being competitive and they are waiting to see if you submit new test scores from ACT, or 3) isn't competitive and it has been closed.

If you are going to reach out to anyone, I recommend emailing/calling your Field Force Liaison first because they should be able to give you an idea of how competitive your file is and if there is an issue, they'll call your admission rep directly.

I have only just sent my official SAT scores, would this delay my initial application being opened? Thanks!

Most likely. When DS's app didn't open, he e-mailed his Regional Admissions team and they answered almost immediately. He just asked if there was further information they needed and when he could expect it to open.

Your file won't open until your RC has, at a minimum, your test scores. If they are competitive scores, then your file will be opened.
