I have read that it is possible to inter-commission to other branches of the military from different service academies; USNA grad commissioning into Army, etc. I am curious if it is possible for a USCGA grad to commission into the Navy, Army, Air Force.

USCGA graduates would need to complete their five year service obligation, or be released early from this obligation, in order to be eligible for an interservice transfer; however, it appears fairly routine (seems like there are at least a few every year) for USAFA/USMA/USNA to allow their graduates to immediately be commissioned into other services, including the Coast Guard.

From the Coast Guard's Officer Personnel Management Division:

"Interservice transfer is for regular, permanent officers of the Coast Guard or other armed forces to transfer to another service at the same rank. This is only for regular permanent officers - it does not include reserve officers (USCGR, USNR, USAR, USAFR, etc). If a Reserve Officer in another service, you must first integrate before requesting.

Officers with obligated service are not permitted to apply. Procedures are outlined in the Coast Guard Personnel Manual, Article 12.A.3."

For what its worth, from the people I've talked to who are familiar with the system, intercommissioning at the other academies is getting to be highly limited, generally to people who have some kind of legacy/strong tie to another branch or are really, really good at explaining why X branch is better fit for them then Y. They do have a few that get to do it overall from all the academies each year, but generally, it seems it has to be a one for one trade - where if there's say an USAFA cadet that wants to commission into the Army, there needs to be someone at WP that wants to commission into the AF.
