Ok obviously the interview for a nomination is VERY important. Can any of you that have gone through that process share what it was like and the types of questions that the board asked you.

I had three nomination interviews. Each one was different in its own way. One had two people interviewing me, and another had almost 15 interviewers. Most of the questions were very similar. Some of the questions I was asked included:

What is your strongest leadership trait?
What leadership roles/positions have you held?
What sports and clubs did you participate in?
If you could change anything from your high school career what would it be?
Why do you want to go to a service academy?
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 20 yearS?
Would you serve as a career military officer?

and the hardest question in my opinion: "Why should we pick you over the other people here?"

be relaxed (easier said than done) and be yourself. don't pretend to be someone you're not, and don't try to give them the answers you think they want to hear. i just sat on several boards here at USAFA for things and it's obvious who spouted off the "correct" answers from what they thought was wanted. it's not sincere, and it's easy to tell. just try to be yourself and let them get a feel for who you are, not who you think they want you to be

I only had one, but the question I thought was most interesting was a follow-up of the "What would you like to do after the Academy?"

the guys asked "Say the Air Force needs you in a field that you don't necessarily want to go into. What would you do then?"

Be prepared to answer questions that deal with life after the Academy. USAFA is only a means to get your butterbars and serve your country. These questions show how dedicated you are, or if you only want USAFA for the free education and pilot lessons.
