My DS was told by a '14 M/N to bring an iron to Indoc. Not on the Logging In list and just wondering if anybody else had any intel on this?

Don't recall my M/N needing an iron during INDOC but definitely after once classes started.

Kpskilegac is right. Our M/N had us mail one right after parents weekend. Amazon.com has been a lifesaver this year. You can get free "amazon prime student" which is free 2-3 day shipping, no minimum. All you need is a valid school email address.

DD brought one to Indoc last year (didn't get yelled at to my knowledge but who knows) like your child she was told by M/N to bring a few extra things not in the logging in book - being from out of state she brought the "extra" things she was told about so she would have it all when she needed it. So even if they are yelled at - they will survive if they bring the "extras" to Indoc. They do need them right away after Indoc. It's up to your student on what they want to do - give them the options and let them figure it out. For us it was easier to bring than shipping it up later. Good luck and congratulations!!

I will be yelling at your kid if he brings an iron on the 7th ;)

So ... even though the general saying is: "You're a plebe until you see a plebe" - that's just something we all say to make 3rd Class A splitters "feel good." The fact is the real quote should be: "You're a plebe until you get your eval from and get off your first ship during sea year."

Of course I don't recommend any Plebe Candidates say that to any third class DI's these next couple of weeks, but you can at least know the fact is many of those that will be "yelling" at you these coming months during Indoc and First Trimester are really not so far from where you are in the "Real Kings Point Pecking Order." To the Second and First Class they are really "Super Plebes" until they get back from Sea and they stop worrying about things like: irons, the luster of the shine on their shoes, and other similar stuff that has very, very little, if at all to being a leader in the Maritime Industry specifically and the world generally. That said a true leader certainly knows and understands well how to take and follow direction/orders as well as how to give them and when it's appropriate to do one or the other; which is why a Regimental System is part, in some way, of every Maritime Academy's program in this country.

Good luck to all the incoming Plebe Candidates in the USMMA Class of 2015. Countdown to Indoc is T-4 days, enjoy the Fourth of July with your family and friends. Also remember two things as you get ready to report through Vickery Gate: a) if you do not want to be in the Band - tell them you are tone deaf and do not play an instrument and b) as you look at selecting and picking extra-curricular activities, there are "no class rates" on the waterfront or any of the athletic teams. Since it's Sunday Morning I'll close with that radio preacher's quote: "Just a thought, not a sermon."
