Is my understanding correct?

April 15 is the date he has to commit to USMA.

Call USNA on April 15, if a decision hasn't been made, and then accept/decline USMA's appointment (I am sure it can be done online). It can be done the same day (which is why I say to have a plan in place). I agree it isn't ideal....definitely on the same page there...wouldn't it be nice if all SAs could agree (and stick) to the same dates? We wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I say call the week before and avoid making a decision because no one answered the phone on April 15.

No need to wait until the very last day and assume you'll get a live human, that no one will have leave, that there won't be an office party...etc.

Give yourself wiggle room.

Waiting until the last minute (when the actions of others are involved) is never a good idea.

I truly hope the notification for snhach's DS does come well in advance of the deadline (and I think that is likely to happen)...but a few days for wiggle room is appropriate.

Just my two cents, but I think admissions plan for these scenarios, so accept Army now and wait for Navy! There will always be someone on wait list that will take the spot when Navy comes through so you are not taking a spot from anyone, IMHO! Patience is an extreme virtue for any officer in any service, best to learn it now rather than when you need to make that command decision, IMHO!

GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!

No need to accept before the deadline. Accepting and then declining isn't s good idea in most scenarios.
