So I'm applying for the Army ROTC scholarship, but a Navy recruiter has been contacting me and I'm also interested in opportunities there.

He says that I can enlist and be in the DEP, but if I win the scholarship the Navy will void my enlistment contract and I'm free to go. Is this true? Or just a way to get me to sign? It seems odd that the Navy would void a contract for an Army scholarship winner.

Oh, I think the Army would be very interested to hear this. Talk to your ROTC contact, and give him the recruiters name/rank.

And no, I wouldn't do anything that involves 3 other steps, just to happen.

I think you have a bigger problem than who to believe. You need to decide whether you want to go the enlisted route or the officer route to a career. You are looking at two drastically different things with ROTC and DEP. If you are unclear what is the difference and think they lead you to the same place, you need to do some extensive research and ask that question of the forum---you'll get lots of good answers.

What the Navy recruiter told you is accurate. However, if you don't win the NROTC scholarship you are now enlisted. Say goodbye to college prior to serving as enlisted.
