OK, I'll rise to the challenge and start this thread! I'm trying so hard to keep that day out of my head, but it keeps coming back! DS has been accepted to VMI, North Georgia and the Citadel, but plans on attending VMI. We are IS, so that is a huge blessing, but the scholarship has so many benefits and would be icing on the cake. Who else is waiting to hear?

We are waiting too! Must say that DS is chill about it all. I'm not! Getting ready for finals and tournament is more what he is thinking of. DS is accepted to six schools with merit scholarships from them-deferred at U of I (?) and waiting for one more. He will be joining ROTC regardless of scholarship and at the school of his choice-of course the scholarship if offered could throw out all plans. Just have to wait it out. BTW,I liked North Georgia-but to far away for DS.

I guess I'm more stressed because of the money thing, but he plans on VMI no matter what. DS really liked North Georgia as well, but it's too far away and doesn't have the 24/7 military structure like VMI. We were really impressed with the people we talked with and the school had good feel. It was a great second choice, but his heart is with VMI.

I know what you mean about the money thing! I am also surprised at how chill DS is. I guess it's because he knows what he will do (depending on hearing from remaining school). To him, if he doesnt get accepted at remaining school, he will just attend his next favorite-they all have ROTC. His goal remains the same-just a different place-different school, and he likes them all. I guess with other enitities (schools, Army, coaches) having so much input one way or another, it is best to be flexible. Having said that-it drives me nuts!!!! I am use to having some control in our lives and this waiting for other entities is hard... I know, I know-I might as well get use to it! In 4 months this will past and a new adventure will start.

We are waiting here too. DD has already received an appointment to USCGA. I honestly don't know if she will accept it or not yet. She does need to go visit to help her make up her mind. She attended AIM, but needs to sees it during the school year. Hopefully, she can visit in February.

Her other plan, not sure if it is Plan A or Plan B, is AROTC scholarship at a private school. She has already been accepted at the private school and has received a merit scholarship that will help some.

DD is very, very young. She is still 16, will turn 17 in a few months. In the last few weeks, she has talked about everything from being a pilot, a rescue swimmer, a nurse, mental health doctor/nurse, a math teacher, physical therapist, and an engineer. She was absolutely crushed the day that she found out that rescue swimmers are an enlisted career field only.

So it will be really interesting to see where she ends up next year and in 4 years from now.

    Hello everyone,

Glad to see someone started a thread for you all to meet on. The long, dark days of January, February, March of last year were easier to get thru with the wonderful support here. It is an insane ride and truly is just the beginning of the journey. Will check in on you and know that another mom is out there praying for all of your kiddos(and you too:thumb:).

Remember Girl Scout cookies, alcohol and other food items should be on hand for the days while the results are delayed and/or released.

    Take care.

I observed this thread last year and seen the stress and frustration rise as spring approached. I was anticipating being one of those stressed ones this year. Fortunately my son has been very blessed as he has an AROTC, AFROTC and USCGA Scholar(Prep) offer. He is waiting on USAFA and USMA. I don't know for sure what he is going to do. I have told him wait until all of your options are known and then make a decision. Great problem!

    Good luck to all.

I'm waiting on this board too. It is the only thing, school and college related, that I am anxious about. Although I will most likely join the ROTC program anywhere I go I would much rather be contracted. The one thing that gives me hope during this process is the alternate routes to becoming an officer.

My son received and accepted a 3 yr AD AROTC to a competitive in state school, but has his heart set on VMI. He received an email from a very selective state school last week telling him they were preparing his file for the January boards???!! Is it possible that he could still be considered for his first choice, VMI-after he has accepted the 3 year?? His desire to go to VMI is so strong that he is considering walking away from the 3 year (if/when it doesn't transfer). Words of wisdom welcome.

Unfortunatly some schools are not up to date on things.

My son was still getting emails and letters from schools on his list months after he had accepted his scholarship.

If your son has already been offered and accepted a scholarship he will not be seen by the board again, his file is closed.

Good luck with the transfer to VMI.

When my DD accepted her scholarship to her #1 choice, she emailed her #2 (wasn't offered) and #3 (also offered) choices that she had done so. I think if there have been any conversations with PMSs or Recruiting officers at other schools, it is just good courtesy to update them and close that conversation loop up.

My DS did the same thing when he decided to go to USMA. He thanked everyone and closed the loop. It's the right thing to do.

Well, today was the day! After the first day that the Oct board met, it appears that it took about 10 days before people started seeing their status change online if they were being offered a scholarship. Historically, has it been about the same amount of time for the Jan board to start posting decisions? Or is it just plain unpredictable?

I would assume it takes the same amount, that is the timeline that I am using. I expect updates to hit sometime next week.

Just plain unpredictable is the best way to look at it.

Last year it took nearly 2 months to get the results and see status changes after the Jan. board. This was due in part the the budget issues that were going on at the time.

Nobody can tell how long it will take this year, hopefully for those waiting it won't be like last year, it was a very stressful time for those that were waiting. The best thing you can do is try and be as patient as you can, tough I know.

Everything with Cadet Command seems to take longer then expected. The OML and Branching was late this year. The last of the CULP notifications came out nearly 3 weeks past the published notification date. Your cadet will soon realize that patience in the Army is a virtue.

Good luck everyone, I hope the results come soon.

Yeah, I had a feeling that was the answer. My older son is enlisted in the army, and he's always talking about how everything is "hurry up and wait." And that's what this whole ride has been like! And it's only the beginning ... :bang:

Thanks Jcleppe for reminding them that January 2011 was a very loonnnggg month last year:biggrin:

Hopefully this January board will follow a more timely release of status updates - will being waiting for this thread to light up when it happens - January or February or whenever CC gets the go ahead.

The Army/ROTC/Guard all do seem to follow the hurry and wait model. The recruit/cadet had better follow all deadlines and proceedures, but not expect the powers that be to do the same.....such is life.

Love the :bang: will have to remember to look for it when appropriate:thumb:

I've just spent the better part of 4 hours reading last years massive thread for the January Board! Kudos to those families, what a gut wrenching time of unusual and bizarre circumstances to wait thru. My DD was board ready but passed over in October, so here I am waiting.

Two years ago, my daughter was chosen on the January board. The board met around the 5th-9th. Her status changed on a Sunday afternoon, Jan
    28th.

Fast forward (2) years and I'll be waiting to hear with everybody else as our son is now in the ROTC hopper. He has similar grades, a higher SAT, similar leadership backround but much less community service type stuff than his sister. However, his sister is a nursing major and there seems to be more 'side' money for them rather than standard line positions. Only time will tell.....
