January 9, 2012 AROTC Board

Two years ago, my daughter was chosen on the January board. The board met around the 5th-9th. Her status changed on a Sunday afternoon, Jan
28th.

Fast forward (2) years and I'll be waiting to hear with everybody else as our son is now in the ROTC hopper. He has similar grades, a higher SAT, similar leadership backround but much less community service type stuff than his sister. However, his sister is a nursing major and there seems to be more 'side' money for them rather than standard line positions. Only time will tell.....

Good luck! I remember when we went through the waiting. Hard to believe it was two years ago.
fingers crossed that you get the same good news!

Keep in mind this is the board with probably the most files to look at, this is also the board where the most offers will be made, and this is the board where some schools will be out of allocations, so as they go down the list they need to look at each school list and check all the variables before making an offer. It's not going to happen quickly...deep breaths...deep breaths.

army rotc just showed up on my dodmerb account as qualified. good sign i hope??? nothing on the status page yet....I'm hopeful that is good sign!!

DS DoDMERB page also now lists AROTC qualified status which wasn't there as of a week ago...also hopeful it's a good sign of things to come! No change on status page.

That is how we found out about DS AROTC schoarship. It showed up on DODMERB. Good luck! Keep checking the ROTC portal and then you will find out where your schoarship is assigned to.

I just made a DoDMerb account today and my status is "Under DoDMERB Review" under ROTC. Anyone know what this means?

My DS was passed over for the first boards for AROTC, but was sent a DODMERB packet. The DODMERB webpage has changed to "needs a remedial appointment'-blood work. Not worried , iron def. as a freshmen - distance runne All tests have been normal for some time including one done last month. Will this hold up any second board offers?

Last year, DS was in the same position, passed over in Oct, but sent for DoDMERB. He had no remedials and showed up as AROTC qualified right away. I do not believe that the boards hold any applicants based on DodMERB status - so he should be "racked and stacked" with the January applicants scores. Hope you hear something soon. His remedial shouldn't be a big issue since you already have the blood work and know he'll test fine on a redo. Sit tight a little longer - every flick of the screen at DoDMERB or CC can send everyones pulses racing and the what ifs flying around speculating what it all might mean. Until the formal letter arrives from CC(after CC status updated even)nothing is offical. Prayers with you and all the other waiting:thumb:

I'm confused, and new to this process. How does an applicant "make" a DoDMERB account, I thought it was initiated by DoDMERB?

I have to agree with Ohio2015Parent, don't read too much into the Dodmerb Status. Many applicants had dodmerb status changes and did not receive a scholarship. The best you can do is wait for the status change on the Army site.

Good luck everyone.

Technically, AROTC begins the DodMERB process by submitting an applicant name to DODMETS - another contractor who send the initial paperwork via USPS, at this point the applicant then "makes" an account on the DoDMETS scheduling website. DODMETS tells you what doctors in your area are authorized to do the exams, you call and schedule them, fill out forms and the doctor's office submits their final report to DODMERB - then the decision for qualified or needs remedials is made by DODMERB - ultimately AROTC decides waivers - after DodMERB makes it "ruling".

Typically, AROTC doesn't send most applicants thru this process until they have offered a scholarship to them. However, last year there were a few on the forum, like my DS, who were sent after the October board. Ultimately, this meant nothing - DS was not offered a scholarship.

Take care of each other during this wait.

Thanks for clearing this up! I was starting to stress just a little.

In fact, it was my understanding that things were different now, in that applicants don't go through the DODMERB process at all, unless they have been offered a scholarship. But I guess there are exceptions.

Good morning all. I'm a first time poster and about a year long observer (lurker) and the first thing I want to do is say "thank you". The combined wisdom, inspiration, advice and sympathy found on this forum has helped me - and DS get past many a hurdle in the process to get to this day.

I've not really felt that I had anything to contribute of real value until this point. DS, Mom and I are waiting somewhat less than patiently for the decisions to be handed down, and I hope this will help. #1. I spoke with DS's number 1 choice (NGCSU) on Monday 1/9/12, and the Captain advised that the decision process would likely take CC most of the week due to the large numbers of files to be reviewed. This is consistent with other comments and speculation in this and other posts. #2. In early December I emailed CC specifically about DoDMerb as DS had not received direction on this from CC and it was the only requirement remaining not received on his status. I received an email reply that stated the medical portion was not required at this time and would only come into play if DS was awarded a scholarship.

I wish DS would have received direction on this as many of you have, however I can only go by the email I received from CC. I hope this has helped in some way.

I wish you all the best of luck on the forthcoming decisions. DS has wanted this from the age of 7 and his ultimate goal is to be a career Army Officer. We continue to wait...and take deep breaths.

site down?

Is anyone else having a problem getting into the check your application status on the army rotc website? It was working fine at 6am but from noon on it seems to be down.

The sites go down for routine maintenance and updating. It also can be the platform you use, make sure they have not changed it regarding upgrades.

Honestly, if it wasn't there yesterday (SAT), it won't be there tomorrow (federal holiday). You can be snoopy over the dog house looking at the bowl, but nothing will change until at least Tuesday, and if we are being honest, probably Wednesday.

Check your firewall, and your platform, but JMPO it is Sunday, and I can't see any updates coming down the line.

The website was running on Sat. night but it changed sometime between Sat. night and Sunday morning when I checked at 8:00a.m. Who knows what it means but we will find out. Tomorrow is a Federal holiday but does the Army have the day off?

Even if they are there, don't count on updates - the computer goes haywire all the time and no one notices unless its close to a board update.

I know just how darn hard it is, but really, really try to find something to keep your mind off of the board results for a few more days. As Pima pointed out, Wednesday is more likely(typically mid-late week seems to be when things start). Find a movie, get outside -- anything to keep the stress level down. It will be over soon - and then some of you unfortunately will wait thru March boards too:eek:

Welcome, BlackDogs! I was in your shoes last year, along with many others. Great post! Good luck everyone!!!

It's only been a year since my DS was stalking out the portal as well. Good luck to everyone. My word of advice is if you are awarded the scholarship be well informed as to the PFT, when the scholarship actually takes place and that you can still get cuts even if you contract. My DS is an engineer major which is very difficult to do with ROTC. He is in the process of talking with CC to see if he can change his major. ROTC is a major on its own and throwing a heavy major into it is extremely difficult to both really well. Our kids are the best of the best and this is probably the first time that they struggle. I wish everyone well.
