Hey! I am a senior currently applying for Army ROTC. My Dad was an 0-6 in the Army and I have pretty much grown up in the Military. I am a bit worried about the Army Scholarship because the board was supposed to meet this week and its Wednesday and my application still says board ready... should I contact them? Or just wait it out...? I really want this scholarship just like everyone else.

Wait it out until you hear a Yay or Nay on the scholarship itself.

The second board will likely not announce until very late Jan or early Feb. While you are waiting start gathering medical records so you can sail through the DoDMERB process.

The board is a group of Lieutenant Colonels who will review probably 4000 files. It's not going to happen in one day. Once that happens the next step is for Cadet Command to look at those ranked files and make offers based on what the applicant asked for and what's available. That won't happen quickly either. Your are going to be waiting a little while. And if you don't get an offer this board you may be waiting until March for an answer. Just sit tight. I know it's hard, but hang in there.

I'm boarded too, but don't sweat. They'll probably send out notifications to all the winners at once, like they did after the first board. That should happen in late January or early February. Don't freak out that you didn't get a scholarship from the first board either; that ones mostly for rocket scientists who will probably go to an academy and turn back their scholarship offers anyway. Good luck!

Well said StaypuftMan. Love the name too. My DS (and I) were sweating the first board after a "no decision" round. As we were both interlocking hands and stepped to the ledge, I decided to first seek the guidance of those on this forum. Thank God for that as we both returned to our normal lives (temporarily)...now he's checking his account every couple days and I feel the grasp of his hand once again. LOL!! Hang in there everyone...we have plan "Bravo" and "Charlie" ready to go.

If I may ask, what is your plan "bravo" and "Charlie?" I am in the processes of developing mine!

Good advice on not freaking out.

As far as "Rocket Scientists" not all of them. A lot has to do with the Whole Person Score and the school selections when it comes to a first board selection.

When my son received his scholarship it was from the first board, he was far from ever working on Rockets, he had a 3.5 GPA and a 24 ACT. His leadership and athletics were very strong as was his interview, and his school selections were not at highly competitive schools, his PMS said that was most likely why he received a first board offer. Not that many from the first board will turn back their scholarships as you might think.

It is very true that the majority of scholarships will come from the second and third boards, hang in there.
