Not sure how many on the board were at orientation but this was classic and I feel sorry for the appointee if the name gets out. During the BCT overview Q&A, a mom askes "Is sex prohibited at BCT?" You could hear the jaws dropping on the floor by the cadres on stage. Any other classics at any of the other orientations?

Thats worse than the Grad Dad who drilled the BCT Cadet commander about someone hitting his son.

Haha I remember that. There were definitely some weird/dumb questions at the 1st orientation. Nothing like the "jaw dropper" though. I wish I could have seen the cadre's reactions.

How was the question answered? After their jaws were back in place.

Of the day long powerpoint sessions at 1st orientation, I enjoyed the master drill sergeant (?) who discussed BCT and how they motivate "in their own special way." I also heard a few chuckles when he told the women, "I gurantee you will cycle during BCT." And no, he wasn't talking about mountain bikes. He sounded so convincing that I think a few of the men wondered if they'd cycle as well.

Once they regained their composure, they responded that no sex was allowed for the entire 4 years!

The cadets on stage answered with a NO after regaining their wits. Not at the Jawdropping level, but also somewhat humorous was the parent who wanted the admissions director to personally tell her appointee to keep his grades up and avoid senioritis. The parent was quite adamant that her appointee would not listen to mom and needed to be told by the admissions people.

Have to admit the Jawdropper title got my attention.

That is pretty gutsy of that mom! Maybe she heard about the female who was separated a couple of years ago when she got pregnant during Beast. Yes - Air Force Academy.

    LOL - Probably true!

that is pretty crass. nothing worse than a male trying to tell females.... well, you know.
Anyway - some actually will not. They will totally lose their periods during beast. Don't count on it though because some go the opposite. Females need to be prepared for all situations.

I was there when he said it and I really did not find it crass. You could tell he was going through a list in his head of all the crazy and stupid things that he has seen over the years. One of which was "please be sure to wear under garments" "you will be trying on different uniforms and we don't wish to have to reserve a private room for you"

As for the comment regarding "will somenoe guarntee that my son won't get punched during BCT" I didn't really think that he was a Grad, as much as, someone that has gone through any enlisted basic training before. Oh and the SGT guarnteed nothing.

Gotcha - I agree the delivery is everything.

gotta love the "please be sure to wear under garments" - LOL
Now that's good advice, at least until you get your own uniforms.

I enjoyed it when someone asked "what if I graduate june 23?" which was answered "you must be here June 24." Five minutes later another person asked "what if I graduate June 25?" It seemed like people didn't realize this is the military and you will be there when they say you will - no exceptions.

Aside from all the funny stuff that went on, I was most impressed with the presentations, the cadets and the staff at the academy. I came away with a great sense of pride that my kid met the standard and will be going to the finest institution in the United States. To all those cadets on here, congrats, you represented well  To all those appointees congrats on the first step to an incredible journey:smile: and to all those that are seeking to enter the class of 2015 - drive hard and don't give up for it is worth it:thumb:

I was there as well and just found it humorous - agree with JAM that delivery counts and I thought he was the best speaker of the day. His point on the conversation wasn't that he was insisting everyone would "cycle" but more that they should bring "supplies" to be prepared because each year girls don't and insist they wouldn't cycle during that time and they do. So I think he was saying it as much from the "tempting fate" perspective - that if you don't bring the personal hygiene items you prefer, you WILL cycle, guaranteed!

What about the lady at ours who "wasn't comfortable with the sponsor program. Why do they need another family?"

That was hilarious-- just thinking about the poor appointee sitting there with his/her head in their hands thinking, "mom, please sit down, please sit down."

I think they should have only taken questions from the appointees. Duct tape for the parents. It also would have cut some time off the day. The point is this is the kids choice and they need to be the ones comfortable with what they are doing.

It's going to be a rude awakening call for some of the parents who think they're still in control.

Things change; time to let us baby falcons leave the nest:thumb:
