Hi, just wondering if anyone on these boards has ever received a nom from Rep John Sarbanes(MD-03) to USNA? If so, do you know how competitive it was (i.e. how many other applicants there were?) I googled it and couldn't find anything, so I thought that this forum might have an answer. I just want to have an idea of what I will be going through in a year. Thanks

I got the nomination last year to both USNA and USAFA but not appointed (going to try again but for Air Force only). I wish I could tell you exactly how many applied but here are some numbers I remember from last year. The senators each get about 300 applicants 250 are for navy alone. I would guess that sarbanes gets about 100 or fewer navy apps. Also last year he was filling 2 slates for each academy. This year will be more competitive since there will only be ten nominations instead of 20. Pm me if you want to discuss the process in more detail.

Just give your 100%, this question for how competitive in my Congressional district for a nomination is one of the most meaningless questions that gets asked on this board. Are you going to not apply to USNA if the MD 03 is competitive? Are you going to take it easy if MD 03 is not competitive? I know you just want to know.

For every appointment, there are 10 nominations. Yes, a nomination is required for an appointment. But most of the times there is no difference between #2 and #10 kid, as when the #1 kid accepts the appointment #2 to #10 are out of luck.

I served on the MD 03 nomination board when the Congressman was Cardin. USNA was very competitive and more than 50% of kids seeking nomination puts USNA as their #1 choice. Similar for another Congressional district that I am on the nomination board also.

Again, give 100% and hope for the best. Good luck.

Thanks

Thank you to both of you for your insight into this process. I appreciate it and will take it to heart.
