I got some bad news the other day, my scholarship application paperwork never reached Maxwell:frown: but I really want to join AFROTC. Does anyone know how to join through the college? I tried contacting the detachment I would be joining but they haven't responded yet. I'd really appreciate any advice.

Can't speak for AFROTC, but I'm currently a noncontract, nonscholarship freshman in AROTC. Had my heart set on CGA (or so I thought), changed my mind fall of senior year, and decided on Army ROTC far too late to apply for a 4 year scholarship.

It is very easy to become involved. I literally just walked into the ROTC building on administration day before the semester began, and they were very receptive and helped me get my paperwork going.

Once on campus and settled, go see the detachment commander or recruiting officer and talk with them. You will have to sign some forms and I think apply for a background check. You will probably also need permission from the detachment to enroll in the AFROTC "class" that meets once a week. When your paperwork is in order, start attending PT, and labs. I know that in AROTC once they know you are committed and involved (which you will demonstrate by attending as many PT sessions, labs, etc that you can), they will issue you equipment as needed.

If any of this is different in AFROTC, I apologize! Best of luck!

Thank you so much! That makes me feel so much better . I was worried that I would have to apply long before the class started, that's a load off my shoulders!

A lot of people pick up 3-year in-college scholarships. Just let them know about it when you start AFROTC and theyll help you along in the process.

No permission needed. ANY college freshman may enroll in ROTC.

You're right JAM, I misspoke. The way my school's class registration system works is that certain classes require you to enter a "permission number" into the online system in order to enroll in that class. Military science is one such class, therefore you would need to get a permission number from a military science instructor in order to enter the class. Thats what I was referring to.
