Hopefully some one can answer this question. This will be my daughters fourth year in JROTC. The school she is at now is not an honor unit, but the previous school was. So my question is can she receive a nomination from her former JROTC unit?

I would assume the answer would be no, since she is a member of a new unit. I would ask your ALO for sure.

No, but if she is applying to the same academy as that service with which her present JROTC unit is affiliated, it does not have to be an honors unit. USNA-NJROTC, USAFA-AFJROTC, or USMA-JROTC. Only when 'crossapplying' is it necessary for the unit to be an honors unit.

So if I understand you right your saying that she can get a nomination from her Army JROTC for the Military Academy and it doesn't have to be an honor unit? Who would she get this from?

    Thanks for the info!

I'm applying to USNA and am in Army JROTC and i'm getting it from my Senior Army Instructor. I would assume it would be same for all nominations coming form JROTC units.

Yes ma'am, we're an honor unit with distinction.

I've looked and have not seen this in writing anywhere else. Is mombee correct here?

True that. Don't take my word (or mombee's word) for it. Call Admissions at the academy to which you are applying and ask them.

Here is a quote directly from the USMA admissions website:

I've been looking for this info on the USNA website. Does anyone have a link to the form for USNA like the one that was posted for USMA? Son's senior instructor was not aware that this is a possibility and we're trying to help him get the necessary information. Thanks for all your help!

The rules are set forth in the US Code and Army, Air Force and Navy all use the same rules. Your son should call the CGO at the Naval Academy. The folks there can help him get the necessary information.

Thank you, JustAMom. Son already called CGO and they told him that they need to receive info from his instructor (I think instructor has to go to his "higher ups" and get them to send info to USNA that, in fact, unit is a "unit with distinction." Son is just trying to help instructor (who doesn't really know what to do) in any way possible, because this could be the only nomination he receives as our area is highly competitive. If there was a form, like the one for USMA, that we could show the instructor, we thought this might be helpful. Thanks, again, for all your help!

I just tried looking on the USNA site and i cannot find it. I swear it was up this past May. I found a little paragraph just like the one JAM posted back then. I asked my SAI and he said he knew about it and had info from USNA theyve been sending him every year since we ve been an Honor Unit with Distinction which has been close to 12 years so i wonder why your sons hasnt?

I don't think son's JROTC unit has been an "honor unit" for quite that long, so I don't think the instructors know quite what to do. Also, it is Army JROTC and son wants Navy/ USMMA, and I think they are confused by that. Thank you for your input; we will just have to continue to press forward and assist in any way that we can!

    SaMom,

I highly recommend talking with the senior instructor of your child's JROTC unit. If they have the opportunity to submit a name for nomination, I have no doubt they will do so.

    Additionally, depending on where you live - be sure to attend the Service Academy Forum that your Member of the US House of Representatives and/or Senators hosts/participates in. If you live on the South Shore/Cape Cod or the Islands of Massachusetts - there are 2 events - one in May hosted by my college - and one in Marshfield next month. Info on that program ca be found on this weblink;

    http://www.house.gov/delahunt/academy.shtml

If you are not from our area - email me and I will try to direct you to a program.

Good Luck with the nomination process.

Did anyone find the "rules"? My son's AFJROTC insturtor says the answer is "no". I know, call the AFA, he will tomorrow. Just curious if someone else already has called.
