JROTC

An Honor Unit w/ Distinction is basically a "grade" for your unit.
Every other year there is a formal inspection and the years in between there is an informal inspection of the unit.
The inspection is out of 100 points and depending on the number of points of your unit receives, you will know whether you are a HUw/D or not.
Talk to your unit instructor.
You can also tell what you unit is according to the color of your unit star.
For example, if you wear a gold star on your uniform, then you are an HUw/D

Dont think air frce wheres the star above the dui like army. The formal inspection isnt out of 100 becuase we scored 173 out of 200

Opps. My bad.
I meant to say the informal is out 100 and the formal is out of 200.
We had an informal inspection a week ago and got a 99/100.

well excusing my bad spelling earlier for some reason, Does anyone know if Air Force JROTC wears A gold star? i dont think so

Whatever you do avoid telling anyone you were JROTC before the end of plebe summer, and DEFINITELY do not act like it taught you anything. No matter what the admissions office thinks about it, your detailers will rail you for it and your classmates will be annoyed with you if you act like you know something because you learned it in ROTC.

Don't not help eachother out, just avoid saying anything about it.

Riv, I can speak only for AFJROTC for my child and I applied and received the JROTC nom.

The "gold star",,I believe you mean the one that is worn on the white ribbon with yellow vertical stripes? NO, that is not the honor unit ribbon. That ribbon with the gold star means the Cadet attended the JROTC/USAF honors camp. It is a solo honor for luck cadets.

The white ribbon with yellow vertical stripes(that looks identical to the honor camp MINUS the gold star is the honor unit ribbon.
Wow, this is confusing just reading what I wrote. Hope you can interpret. Look in you AFJROTC manual, it shows all the ribbons.

Since my child applied to the USNA, it had to be with Merit/Distinction. Honor unit alone is not enough.
We had to supply the form that we downloaded right off the USNA and USMA website, have the Colonel of the JROTC unit fill it out, send copies of the citation and that was it. Three weeks later, it was on the nomination spot on the respectful website.

This was our experiences. Hope it helped.
