My sophomore year sucked. I was suspended for 2 days in sophomore year for a facebook cheating ring. A classmate took pictures of a test we were allowed to look at for the period and posted them online. He convinced me to help him answer the questions and post the answers only. Out of the 2 euro classes in our year, 39/50 people joined the group. I have learned from my mistake. I am in no way letting this incident define who I am as a person.

My AP Scores are as follows- Ap euro (4) ap chem (3)
As of now, i only took sat subjects. Math 2 (640) Chem (630) World History (610)

I am now in junior year. here is the list of classes im taking.
AP Calc AB
AP US
AP English Lang
AP Bio
H Physics (yes. 2 science classes this year)
AP Psychology
AP Comparative Govt

I have an A in 6 of these classes. and a B in ap psych.

I am the President of Beta Club. I've been a member for all 3 years.
I was secratary of bicycle club freshman year but the club disbanded.
I am a member of film club. (joined this year)
I've been a member of a red-cross affiliated club called Youth Against Poverty. (10th+11th grades)
Member of Reach Club (anti-human trafficking club). (10th+11th)

Swim Team: 9th grade: Frosh/Soph League 3rd 50 Fly, 2nd 100 IM
10th grade: Frosh/Soph TEAM MVP. League: 1st 200 free 1st 200 medley relay 3rd 50 fly

I have work experience as a computer lab technician and student helper. (10th grade)
I have been a mentor through the gear up project since the beginning of 10th grade.

I plan to intern with Council member Tom Lebonge. He is a highly popular politician in los angeles connected with the senators and representatives.

Thanks

ps. I would also like to attend the summer seminars!

Wow, thats a lot of hard classes:) Just make sure that you do not try to hide the fact that you were suspended... Make sure you do some community service and something athletic also.

Swimming seems pretty athletic to me! Good suggestion on the community service!

Candidates asking the omnipresent "What are my chances?" would be well served to 1) read the sticky notes at the top of this forum and 2) utilize the forum search engine and search "chances".........quite a significant amount has been written about such things previously!

Heed jennyp's advice there's lots of information here.

The only sure thing anyone on here can tell you is that if you don't try you're 100% guaranteed not to get in.

Impress your calc and english teachers this year. They will be writing your recommendations come summer.

That said, and trying to be honest, three things jump out for me:

Your unweighted GPA is good but not great. Taking all those tough classes may be hurting you if your school doesn't use a favorable weighed scale.

Your 10th grade math and chem grades are not stellar. Pick it up this year in Calc and physics.

You don't list your PSAT or SAT scores which you should have taken by now. If you didn't kick tail on it, study, practice, study some more.

You've gotten good counsel.

The 2 elephants in your pantry include:

1. Your confessed misstep. Work and practice explaining it openly, honestly, candidly and totally void of excuses. The poor decision was yours. You can make this mistake into a strong plank in your platform. But zero excuses. You are only victim of your own immaturity and poor judgement. Turn it around.

2. Your diversity status. If your tests, classes, grades, athletics, good health, better behavior continue, this makes you a virtual slam dunk. Recognize the gifted favor you'll be given and work to make yourself a stellar candidate relative to the overall profile of Midshipmen, not merely a good "diversity" candidate. Unfortunately, to the degree this affirmative action persisits in admitting candidates, it will color the perception of how you might be admitted. Work to be a legitimate applicant in every way other than birthright or background of ethnicity. Good luck, work hard as you appear to be, and do your best.

Both of these can be positives or otherwise. What you make them will be up to you.

thanks for the advice. i just wanted to know if the suspension and bad grades in 10th grade would mean that i would get automatically rejected.
