Well, Junior year is approaching for me and I'm really doing as much as I can to really get into the AFA (I want to fly, and major in Astronautical Engineering). I need some tips, or maybe some guidance, though.

    Academic Achievement:
    Grade 9, Semester 1:
    • Geometry 1-2 Accelerated: A
    • Biology 1-2 Accelerated: B
    • Computer Applications: B
    • English 1-2 Accelerated: B
    • Introduction to Engineering: A
    • Team: Tennis Varsity, Boy's: A
    Grade 9, Semester 2:
    • Geometry 1-2 Accelerated: B
    • Biology 1-2 Accelerated: A
    • Health Education: B
    • English 1-2 Accelerated: B
    • Introduction to Engineering: A
    • Team: Tennis Varsity, Boy's: A
    Grade 10, Semester 1:
    • Intermediate Algebra Accelerated: B
    • Principles of Engineering: A
    • AP Modern World History: B
    • English 3-4 Accelerated: A
    • Honors Chemistry: A
    • Team: Tennis Varsity, Boy's: A
    Grade 10, Semester 2:
    • Intermediate Algebra Accelerated: B
    • Principles of Engineering: A
    • AP Modern World History: B
    • English 3-4 Accelerated: A
    • Honors Chemistry: B
    • Team: Tennis Varsity, Boy's: A

My University GPA at this point is a 4.0, and my academic unweighted GPA (cumulative) is 3.94, according to my counselor. Next year, my classes are:

    1. Jazz Band 3-8
    2. AP Language and Composition
    3. Honors Pre-Calculus
    4. Physics
    5. U.S. History
    6. Spanish 1-2
    7. Boeing Internship
and my classes for my Senior year are:
    1. Jazz Band 3-8
    2. AP Literature and Analysis
    3. AP Calculus
    4. AP Government (1 semester)/Economics (1 semester)
    5. N.J.R.O.T.C. (Naval Junior ROTC, for the lack of AFROTC)
    6. Anatomy/Physiology

I'm currently a nominee for the N.S.H.S.S. (National High School Honor Society), and am planning to have a Boeing internship during my Junior year. I would join ROTC and tennis, but the lack of flexibility of my schedule (due to my AP/honors/accelerated classes) limits what classes I can take, at which periods; however, I'm still going to play for my school's tennis team all four years- I just won't have the conditioning period but that shouldn't be a problem because I self-condition, anyways. Also, I'm planning on joining Key Club and my school's Mock-Trial/Debate team. I've played Varsity Tennis since my freshman year, and will continue to play, and am hoping to play collegiate for the AFA.

    Questions:
    1. Because my grandpa is a veteran, will they take that into consideration when they look at my application?
    2. When should I begin to contact my my regional legislative office, inquiring about nominations?
    3. What's the "average" SAT/SAT II/ACT score for AFA cadets?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

    1. Your grandfather being a veteran could get you a different prop and wing pin for recognition, but I believe that's all.
    2. early-mid junior year
3.sat- 1200-1600, Act- 28-32 (rough estimates, I don't have the info with me, but you can look it up for exacts), they dont take SAT II

My foreign language is probably going to be Spanish 1-2 and 3-4, possibly 5-6 if they offer it at my school Senior year. Leadership, I'm the Boy's Varsity tennis captain (since my 10th grade year), and I'm planning to run for Senior Class President my senior year. I work closely with my school's student council (ASB, associated student body), even though I don't have the class- I help plan events with them like Graduation, Winter Formal, Fall Fling, etc. My mom is a teacher back at my old Elementary School, and I help tutor some kids there sometimes, too. Does that count? xP

Keep going for As in you classes. Leadership is important, but make sure it is in something you are consistently involved in. If you are good enough to play D1 in a sport, your athletics should be ok.

(Unless USAFA recalculates grades heavily in your favor, you probably do not have a 4.0/3.94 by USAFA standards. I'm not sure how your school calculates things, but it doesn't seem like how most places do it.)
