Received two of the finest emails the past two days from our Ensign who is out patrolling the Bering Sea. It couldn't have made two parents any prouder!

First email: "I just wanted to let you know that I passed my Underway OOD board!! I just have a few homework questions and then I get my letter. So picture this in your head, a 5'1 1/2" blonde hair, blue eyed girl, driving a 282' boat, lol. It still really hasn't hit me yet, but at the same time it feels good to be DONE! Now I just have to take my boarding officer board...lol"

Second email:"It's official, I can drive my boat! I just got my letter signed by the CO. So it is pretty cool a 282 foot boat in the Bering Sea...who would've thought! Watch out you crabbing boats, lol."

Those of you preparing to enter USCGA and those currently there, this is your future!

Those long, over-scheduled, never ending, stress-filled days at USCGA have their purpose! You know, the ones where you can't figure out why anyone would expect you to memorize things that make no sense to you, learning to lead, learning to follow, being screamed at, screaming at others, running everywhere, living with a new roommate each semester, keeping things in order, studying, studying, studying... It all comes together the day that you report to your first duty station. And want to know something? USCGA does a darn good job of preparing you for that day.

So as the firsties count down to graduation day and new appointees count down to RDay, it's all for the same reason...to prepare you to become a leader in the US Coast Guard.

    Job Well Done CGA!!! :thumb:
PS: She accomplished OOD in 7 months! and has been on 4 patrols since July. Saltier than her old man

Thanks for sharing...I am sending this to my 4/c at CGA. It will help him see his future a bit more clearly, I'm sure!

Congrats on a job well done to your daughter as well!

Excellent news from the frozen north...remember when we worried about them driving a car? Now it's medium and high-endurance cutters! Son passed his too and has driven through the Georgian Strait and Juan de Fuca up off Washington state. It's a mighty interesting life they lead!
