Just got off the phone with Liason

- if you can't pass the CFA - you will not be offered an appointment, no matter how glowing the rest of your file is.

If you are really good or meet some other criteria, the Admission Office will request an waiver. My RC and I had a discussion if the RC should request a CFA waiver for a candidate that failed the CFA.

Interviews are very important. In many cases, the only person who sees the candidate "in person" is the Field Force person conducting the interview. Of course, if you attended the Summer Session the interview was completed there. I have seen MANY CASES where the interview was a MAJOR factor in the admissions decision.
I have conducted dozens of official interviews and provide this unofficial advice to candidates. None of what I am saying is official - just my views.

1. Come early - be there before the interviewer arrives. Showing up early gives a good impression. Showing up a minute late or even just on-time is not good.
2. Wear a coat and tie (a nice dress for women) - not required but makes a good impression
3. Be neatly groomed-no facial hair or long hair for men (just my opinion)
4. Have a resume to include your activities and HS transcripts
5. Be prepared to show that YOU (not your parents) have a strong desire to be a West Pointer and be able to clearly explain why.
6. Arrive alone - no parents, friends, school officials etc.
7. Give a firm handshake, a nice friendly smile, and look the interviewer in the eye in a friendly way.
8. During the interview, make sure you show that you have a great deal of knowledge about West Point
9 Show that you want to attend WP because you want to serve as a military officer, serve your country, and live a military life-style.
10. Have your file as complete as possible - have as few "red icons" as possible. An incomplete file makes a VERY bad impression. Do not say that you have not completed your file because you have been busy.
11. Ask questions
12. Make sure that you have already applied to your Congressman for a nomination
13. Say what you believe or feel and not what you think the interviewer wants to hear
14. After the interview send a "thank you type" email or note to the person that conducted the interview
