Hey Guys,

I just received news from my Admissions Officer that about an Appointment offer for Class of 2014. I understand that I need to stay physically and mentally strong, but what is the next step? I've never visited yet or any of that, could someone help me out?

Thanks so much

You will get a lot of mail. You need to fill out several forms; immunization forms, police forms, uniform sizes, buy boots and shoes. After that figure out travel information for R-day (june 28). When all that is finished just relax and try and stay in shape.

Check your candidate portal daily. You will probably get the dental packet in the mail very soon. As soon as you see "Instructions for Candidates Offered Admission" in the portal, print it out and start working on the forms.

Go to the "Admissible mailings" tab on the portal, and you will see a link to a "boot letter". This will give you most of the information you need.

Congratulations! It's really fun to see one of these great kids getting an appointment this late in the game, particularly after such bleak forecasts. Do you mind sharing, were you off the National Wait List, or a recently granted medical waiver?

Jonathan, I had a big drawn out post here last night that I decided to delete but, I'd like to leave just this small bit of advice and a question: Check out the institution and make sure you want this lifestyle. I say that because you mention that you've never even visited West Point and Q) I'd like to know your research and level of commitment before trying to advise you on how to catch up here.

We're give or take 7 weeks from "R" Day and things need to happen fast.

Thank you all for your input, I'm flying out there over memorial day weekend and such. My admissions officer informed me that I came off of the National Wait List, although it seemed that they already sent out too many appointments expecting attrition (people declining). They opened up the national list and it appears that I was fairly high on the list.

What is really funny is that I was informed that I was a "Fully-Qualified, non-selected" candidate over 2 weeks ago. I was still hopeful because I read somewhere that the official deadline is May 15, 2010 (give or take a few days), but they insisted that they closed everything. I lost a lot of hope and researched Prep schools that most people attend for a year and enrolled. Received a rejection letter last week, then my admissions officer e-mailed me yesterday morning saying: "Jonathan, call me". And then poof, offer of appointment.

If you are visiting WP over Memorial Day, you can buy the boots and low quarters at the PX. You will need your Boot Letter from the Second Admissible Mailings.

In this situation, what 'may' have happened is that you were on a 'Principal with Numbered Alternates' slate and the Principal nom fell off the slate for whatever reason and you were next in line. Doesn't really matter how - what matters is that you have been offered an Appointment to West Point

Thank you all very much. Also, I've received two large folders in the mail so far (including the check list) but I am having trouble locating many of the documents that I need to "print and mail" in. Should I be expecting much more mail? Or is it located somewhere in my candidate portal? I've looked under Admissible mailings but I only found a few items such as boot letter and cover letters.

Thank you

The mailings come a little at a time. My suggestion would be to print out what you can right away and take care of it right away. Get your shots updated, get your police check done, get everything you can done right away and take your forms with you on your visit. Are you going on a scheduled overnight or day visit? If so, you should be able to deliver those documents to admissions while you are there. If not, overnight them with confirmation of delivery and keep copies of everything!

You are so lucky to get your appointment! Stay focused at school and have your parents keep you focused getting everything taken care of quickly and correctly!

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

I thought I was done once I was accepted, but now I'm struggling with all the paperwork. How do I schedule an overnight visit?

If you go to the admissions website, there should be a tab somewhere that says visiting west point. And then from there, there's another one that says overnight visit and then you complete it online.

As far as all of the forms, there is a pdf that you can download off your portal online. I think it's called Instructions for Applicants Offered Admission. You should read all of that and then the forms are in the back and you can just print them off and complete them. In one of your mailings you should have received a bunch of grey envelopes that you can use for these forms.

I got the appointment May 5th as well.

I was a previous reject: emails April 29th-May 4th. Before that time, I did not receive a letter to tell me that I was on a national waiting list.

My particular case is very struggling. I didn't get the nomination from our rep. I called in Nov and in Dec last year and was told my name wasn't on the nomination list. Then 4 days before the Feb 28 WP deadline I received my nomination. The letter from the rep said I was selected for my "second choice" Navy. I didn't select Navy and had no second choice.

So I was very late. I heard the class was more than full before they even took me didn't know it was true.

That was true. My admission officer mentioned that I would have been admitted in normal situations but this year the class was full already (Forbes rating?) so I had to wait. Later, in the rejection email he made me feel less painful and provided encouragement. I then went ahead and paid deposit for another University.

I read somewhere that they gave out many LOA's earlier this year. Plus the acceptance rate was also crazily high. So I gave up hope, there was just no room for me. Don't know what happened in the very last moment I got a call, then email, then another call. No matter what had happened, I am so happy and am pretty sure you and I are the last lucky ones they took this year.

Congratulations and nice thread.

My Stats:

ACT: 34 in one setting: Eng 33, Read 29, Math 36, Sci 36
SAT2's: MathII 800, Physics 800, Chemistry 800.

I just discover this site, want to join the discussion/share my story as another late appointee.

I take it back.
I hope there are a few more appointments to come. A few days ago, before I read this thread, I thought I was the only one offered this late, but I was apparently wrong.

You have lots and lots of papers to fill out! Drumsrock24 has pointed you in the right direction. Look for the "Instructions for Candidates Offered Admission" on your candidate portal. Even though it's a lot of pages, print it out and staple it together because you will refer to it over and over. As Drumsrock24 said, the forms are at the back of this file, but there are lots of nuggets within the reading that you need to know.

Would they still be offering overnight visits on Memorial Day? Haven't the cadets left for the summer by then? I don't know.... Take your boot letter with you when you go and purchase your boots and low quarters at the PX.
