Well I write this from the hotel room in Colorado Springs. DS toured USAFA yesterday and USNA three days before that. Both were of the highest quality. Lots of people have offered him advice. What I am most proud of is that he is soaking it all up and will make the choice that he feels is the best fit for him. He said he wants to go home and let it all sink in and pray and then he will choose. He hasn't even told us which way he is leaning. I think I know but we will see if I am right. Also saw the Texas parent club preparing to have a big BBQ for all the Texas cadets and each can bring a guest. What a cool thing for them to do!

Sure will. I have not pressed him nor have I offered any suggested choice. Its gotta be his choice. He is meeting with a former Naval Aviator tonight to ask a few questions. This man was on his congressional nomination committee and graciously offered to meet with DS. I think he will make his selection within a few days. The only thing I told him was that I thought there wasn't a bad choice. They are both absolutely fantastic places. He is trying to gather info to help him pick which of these two fantastic opportunities he thinks is the best fit for him.

Any tips on the visit? My son was turned down at USNA, awarded a 4yr NROTC to Purdue and this morning an appointment to the USAFA. He loves the aviation fleet of the Navy versus the Air Force so he is torn knowing that Navy is low on pilots per the academy and AF is more competitive and Purdue is a high success rate at placing qualified pilots into training. I told him we should visit the AF as he did the CVW and NASS at the USNA and needs to get a good idea of what his decisions are.

DS had the opportunity to attend the summer leadership seminars last summer at USMA and USNA. He loved both campuses and what each SA has to offer. We toured USAFA a couple of years ago and he enjoyed that campus as well. Now, he finds himself with an appointment to all 3 SA's. Can't go wrong with any of those choices. He really wants to fly fixed wing so is weighing AFA and NA. Congrats to all of these fine young men and women!

How do you get a tour of USAFA? I have an appointment and was wondering if do they do more in depth tours for appointees?

They do have a couple of appointee tour dates in April. I am not sure if they offer more, but one way to find out is to call and ask. And, congratulations to your son!

We scheduled one extra day to see some of the area. garden of the gods is literally 5 minutes from USAFA. We drove a few more miles to old Colorado City. A fun hippy kind of town with neat food places and shops. d.S. Loves the outdoors so Colorado appeals to him.

If he wants to fly, go to USAFA he is almost guaranteed to track pilot out of there and the quality of life for the Air Force is much better than that in the Navy

There is really only one question to ask -- does he play golf?
