Can I just say the obvious that in spite of how much some want to keep these threads serious, I can't help but think that I am not alone in feeling like I am talking among friends. If you are new you will begin to understand it is hard to pull away.

Some times just as in person, I am wired or bored, Or just want sooo much to be helpful, HAHA like almost everybody on the forum knows way more than me. Some days I post way to much "Info" so I hope you all will forgive me.

I do so enjoy the exchanges. My most recent favorite was the "Do I have a chance"....of getting reservations at the Rooster thread.................Because I like everyone else fell for it with the "Oh not again" groan.

I also see things from all sides as we have a Successful Mid 2017, one declined 2019, and one waiting but will probably get declined due to low Math ACT.

By the way I don't worry too much about putting out Bad info, because my Friends here are so quick to set me straight!

PS if you are new to the forum you have to check out "Your kid goes Where" it is timeless!

That "Your kid goes where" post was Epic!

I've fallen into a bit of a crush with my Friends here too. A few make me scratch my head but most are fantastic and have taught me so much. I found this forum when my daughter was mostly through her roller coaster this year....and it's been a crazy ride with twists we had no idea were coming.

This was my first kid taking this ride, and two of my younger ones want to join the fun in a few years. I'll be sticking around with my Friends to learn more along the way :)

    This forum is cyclic.

Summer/fall - how to do something and what are my chances

Fall/winter - nomination and what are my chances, SLE

Spring - I am in, what to do

    Repeat

For old timers, it about helping new kids.

    CAPT,

I though @LDH was actually trying to promote you since you use "@Capt MJ" vice "CAPT MJ" as your moniker.

For those who are not familiar, it is the difference in annotating a Navy O-6 vs Air Force or Marine O-3. It is CPT for Army O-3.

I am just an old salt at this point. I did my screen name a long time ago, never thinking I would contribute with any frequency, using a nickname bestowed by sponsor mids. I did not think too much about the choice of capital letters, except I tend to avoid them in online settings. No need to spend any more thought on it.

Ready Fire aim. That's me for sure, but I rest soundly at night knowing Scoutpilot has my back, and will always be there to catch my mistakes!

Anyway that' s nothing.....how about time about the time I went into a dress store and was looking for a gown to wear to the State Ball, one of the ladies pointed to another lady and said "she is going" and proceeds to introduce us. ....So I say to her something REALLY stupid like "oh I think I recognize your name, is your husband the Master Sergeant". Just as graciously as could be she replied, "No he is the Adjutant General". I got to dance with the general that night, he couldn't resist teasing me, but was so kind about it. What a class act they both were.

My problem with this forum is that I have to use discretion about what I say, so I don't offend too bad with inappropriate humor, or politics. But I must admit, ever since I discovered this forum, when my son decided a year ago he would seek an appointment to West Point, this has been usually the first thing I look at when I go online; be that at home, at work, or on the road. It is addicting, most likely because our kids are so important to us, and the academies are such a significant goal, chalange to be admitted, and because parents become fixated in the process. At this stage, for those who's kids recieved an appointment, it's a lot of fun glowing with pride, and even the many chores that remain are easier in light of the positive energy. Sharing our questions and experiences with others who understand is cool.

The Coast Guard and Navy(O-6/Captain) have the same structure with one difference; coast guard
"That hard nucleus of seagoing professionals around which the Navy forms in times of war."

I dunno... Using Urban Dictionary as your source of definition?

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I am aware that they send cutters to deploy with the Navy, and some call them "sitting ducks" because they are lacking in their own defenses.

They are an uniformed service, but they are not part of DoD. Used to be under DoT and now under DHS. The recruiting video is awesome though... I watched it last month at the county military info night. "Almost" won my heart... nah, Navy for life!!! ;)

I think the only self defense you need deploying with the Navy is common sense and collision avoidance (the U.S. Navy lacking both). ;)
